Yoritaē (ヨリターエィ (自誰壊), She Who Destroys) is an ancient Hollow from the time before the worlds were separated by the Soul King. Originally an entity with no name of her own, hers was given to her by Ichibē Hyōsube. She is the source from which all Hollow inherit their abilities, and as such, some call her "The First Hollow" (第一虚, Daiichi Horō). Her passive influence on Hollows is what causes them to seek out the fragments of the Soul King hidden within Fullbringers. She was sealed within the Reiōkyū, under the watchful eye of the Royal Guard. She is remembered by history only as the Soul Queen (霊王妃, Reiōhi), the enigmatic wife of the Soul King.

History[]
The Thousand-Year Blood War[]
In 2003 AD, Yhwach returned to the Soul Society at the helm of an empire of Quincy, his children. In a matter of days, the Seireitei was overwhelmed with fighting and the Gotei 13 were hard pressed to keep up with their opponents, only gaining the upper hand after suffering great losses and bringing any number of advancements to the field that they might tip the scales. Even the Royal Guard suffered defeat, and soon enough, Yhwach murdered his father and claimed the throne of Soul Society. The Reiōkyū was replaced with Wahrwelt (真世界城 (ヴァールヴェルト), Vāruveruto; German for "True World", Japanese for "True World Castle"), the cornerstone of a new reality.
In creating this realm, he had to wash away everything that existed in the Reiōkyū to be replaced. Though the seals containing Yoritaē were not undone, they were irrevocably weakened which caused her to stir from her slumber. And when she wakes, there'll be nothing to stop her.

Detached Fragments[]
As part of her sealing, Yoritaē was divided, in a manner similar to her "husband", though it was not parts of her physical body that were removed, and instead, parts of her mind and spirit, in the hopes that she would be little more than a lifeless husk. This path was taken after it became clear that no matter how many times they tried, Yoritaē could regenerate from any physical injury inflicted upon her, making the attempt to carve her up ultimately pointless. These fragments were able to become sentient beings of their own, and though possessed of unusual forms, are all Hollows.
- The Wisdom of the Soul Queen — Found in Soul Society, it resides in the North Rukongai where it was worshipped as a God of Knowledge, it once served as a teacher for some among the Balancers of Souls.
- The Temperance of the Soul Queen — Found in Hueco Mundo, a duality of Hollows that are always found together. They ruled over a swathe of other Hollows from within a sea of quartz. Sometimes referenced individually, they are referred to as The Impulse of the Soul Queen and The Restraint of the Soul Queen.
- The Temerity of the Soul Queen — Found in Soul Society, at one time mistaken for a dragon given its appearance, it bonded to Kogarashi Hashimoto becoming his Zanpakutō.
Trivia[]
- Yoritaē's name is stylized in a manner similar to Japanese deities relevant to its creation myth, her name meaning "She Who Destroys" is intended to evoke a resemblance with Izanami and Izanagi who's names mean "She Who Invites" and "He Who Invites" respectively.
- The name of Yoritaē's sword, Totsuka (十拳, Length Ten Times its Handle) is taken from the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi (十拳剣, Lit. Sword of Length Ten Times its Handle), a legendary sword wielded by the Shinto deity Susanoo which he used to cut off the heads and tails of Orochi.
- The Epithet applied to Yoritaē is Taw, represented as X or . It is the final letter in the Phoenician alphabet, and the foundation of the Greek letter Tau. In Hebrew, it is represented as tav, or ת, and is used in the same as Alpha and Omega, as Aleph and Taf. The author's intention is to bring about the same idea while using an extremely old language to highlight how old Yoritaē would be through this interpretation.
