Ylva (イルバ) is a first-generation Presas formerly affiliated with the Dark Council and Fushi Coven, a survivor of the Presas Rift, and one of the few remaining Presas not to flee into hiding, for she remained relatively active even into the modern age. Ylva's habit of assuming a form alike to a large wolf and running in the wild with them influenced mythology amongst the early Humans, giving rise to a number of myths and legends. She has been known both as the "sun-chaser" and "moon chaser", whilst at times also being known as Fenris. She was the lover of former Grand Alpha Ragna Garmr, a fact not widely known at the time, and now mostly forgotten even by the Elders. Whilst a loner by necessity, she agreed to aid the Reikon Kyuuban during the Reikon Kyuuban-Shinigami War, but betrayed the Dark Council by feeding The Balancers information instead. This was Ylva's own retribution for the Rift and Ragna's death, though as she herself was an Alpha at the time, her pack paid the price of her betrayal. Her ultimate fate is unknown, though she is known to have produced heirs by way of Ragna, as Vlad identified Siegfried Adler as being a descendant of Ylva.

Appearance[]

Ylva is an athletic woman with long and lightly-coloured brown hair and pink eyes. In her Lōcuria form, her hair turns white, with fur adorning her upper body, breasts, stomach, arms, and legs.[1]

Personality[]

Ylva turned traitor during the Reikon Kyuuban-Shinigami War, but didn't view her treachery as such, as she believed the Reikon Kyuuban to have already betrayed the Presas during the events that occurred prior, during, and following the Presas Rift.[2] As such, Ylva came to refer to herself as an avatar of retribution. She was subsequently hunted by the Reikon Kyuuban in the immediate aftermath of the war,[3] with Vlad remarking that her name was "very old, and very hated".[4]

By nature and later by necessity, Ylva was a loner. Presas usually existed in packs, with a clear hierarchy, but Ylva stood apart even before the Rift occurred.[5] And while she rose to become Alpha of the Dark Council's few remaining loyalist Presas, this was only ever a means to an end. Her vengeful attitude was later attributed to the death of Ragna Garmr, former Grand Alpha, with whom Ylva was mated, a fact not widely known even amongst her own kind. She refused to follow her lover's killer and pack-mate, Jean Regendorf, and struck out on her own once more.[6] In the words of Vlad, who was one of the Elders who sought Ylva's head, there were a multitude of rare spiritual creatures who stalked the far-flung corners of the world with animals as their sole companions.[7]

Unlike the Bloodhounds, who remained loyal to Katsumi Scarlet, Ylva didn't share their loyal inclination.[8] She refused to acknowledge Myst Kagekyo as Katsumi's successor. Ylva was of the opinion that Myst was a mere proxy and political ploy.

History[]

Ylva was a first-generation Presas who remained loyal to the Reikon Kyuuban and Fushi Coven throughout the long years, though this was very much feigned following the Presas Rift. Ylva was the lover of Grand Alpha Ragna Garmr, a fact known only to a select few Presas, all of whom died in the Rift, alongside Ragna himself.[9]

Per the onset of the Reikon Kyuuban-Shinigami War, Ylva was the Alpha of the Dark Council pack of loyalist Presas, though she had long ago rescinded any loyalty to the group following Ragna's death and the Rift. As soon as she and her pack were deployed to the Soul Society, Ylva fed information to The Balancers, which included military strength and troop deployments. She survived the war, though her pack did not, and she became a hunted woman.[3]

Although her ultimate fate remained unknown for centuries, Ylva produced heirs, as Siegfried Adler can trace a direct line from Ylva and Ragna.[4]

Ylva's impact on Human culture was similar to that of Vlad, who came to be known as Dracula. Whilst the vast majority of the scarce surviving Presas population fled into hiding on the orders of Katsumi Scarlet, siding either with The Bloodhounds or Wolf Rain, Ylva did neither. She walked a solitary path, with the wild wolves of the World of the Living serving as a substitute for the pack she lost in the war. Ylva, in her guise as a grand wolf, became a mythological figure to the evolving Human societies. As she fled the Reikon Kyuuban, she became known as the wolf who chased the sun and moon both, and when she did turn and fight, her prowess gave rise to the legends of Fenrir. Fenrir was held up in myth to be a male, but some accounts claimed Fenrir was female, giving rise to an account where the wolf of various legends was gender-fluid.

Hunger and Greed arc[]

Powers and Abilities[]

Immense Spiritual Energy: Ylva belonged to the first generation of Presas, with power comparable to that of the Reikon Kyuuban Elders.[10] Furthermore, at the height of Presas power just prior to the Rift, only Ragna, the Grand Alpha, managed to best Ylva in battle.[11] She was known to possess a distinct and identifiable "aura", which Vlad claimed was shared by Siegfried.[4]

Hand-to-Hand Mastery: The primary means of combat amongst the Presas horde was close-quarters combat with claw and fang. Ylva's prowess was particularly noteworthy, for she rarely lost a challenge, even when faced with an Alpha of a pack.[5] Furthermore, at the peak of Presas power, only Ragna was known to have defeated Ylva in battle.[11] She killed sword-wielding Balancers, Reikon Kyuuban, and Presas alike during the Reikon Kyuuban-Shinigami War, all with brutal application and lethal precision.[3]

  • Tsumeshasen: For a Presas, who frequently rely on close-quarters combat, one might be fooled into thinking that a battle at any kind of range beyond their claws equates to a solid strategy, though Tsumeshasen voids this particular notion by allowing them to weaponize their reiryoku in a very specific manner.[12] Ylva is capable of releasing powerful blades through her claws, producing a cutting wave of force via a simple slashing motion which, given her age and experience, is comparable to the likes of Ragna, Jean, and Romulus' own versions.[11]

Immense Physicality: As a pure Presas, and one of the first generation to boot, Ylva possesses physical strength well beyond that of even the first generation of Reikon Kyuuban, otherwise referred to as the Elders.[12] Following the Rift, and during her tenure of feigned loyalty to the Dark Council, Ylva was the undisputed Alpha of the Council's remaining Presas.[3] Her strength, speed, durability, and physical endurance have been honed through ingrained cultural contests with her fellow Presas.[5] Additionally, she was stronger than most Alpha's in a time when the Presas were at their peak in numbers and strength, with only Ragna, who was the Grand Alpha, being known to have defeated her. Even in the modern era, Ylva stands as one of the strongest Presas, alongside the likes of Jean Regendorf and Romulus Fane.[11]

Keen Senses: As a Presas, Ylva has animalistic senses far keener than even the animal-like Arrancar. It was speculated by Vlad that the surviving Presas stalked the far-flung corners of the world amongst the various animals of the wild, accepted by their bestial kin without suspicion despite their differences.[7]

  • Caza: The Presas, tapping into their animalistic instincts, make for every effective trackers. Using Caza, they can differentiate between scents, like that of a bloodhound.[12] Her scent is particularly strong, for Ylva has evaded pursuit from hunting Reikon Kyuuban ever since her betrayal.[4]
  • Lúavista: The Presas are a race intimately linked to the Reikon Kyuuban. They possess an ability similar to Reiraku, expressed through their eyes and requiring little concentration, which allows them to visually detect Reikon Kyuuban reiatsu.[12] Her sight is particularly strong, for Ylva has evaded pursuit from hunting Reikon Kyuuban ever since her betrayal.[4]

Stealth Mastery: Ylva has consistently evaded pursuit by the Reikon Kyuuban and their loyal Presas for centuries, right up through to the modern era.[4] Other Presas have the ability to identify Reikon Kyuuban and Presas with sight alone. Even with this trait, Ylva was never discovered by her pursuers, emerging to attack only when the battlefield favoured her.[12]

Lōcuria[]

YlvawereKS

Ylva's Lōcuria.

Lōcuria: This technique, conceptualized by the early Presas of Ylva's own generation, allowed for a Presas to enter into a state akin to a humanoid-beast hybrid, marrying the strength of a beast, a clever mind, and a humanoid shape.[12] This was necessary, for Vociferante came at the cost of the user's intelligent mind, making Lōcuria a more conservative option in a battle amongst equals.[13] Lōcuria serves to conserve the user's spiritual and physical strength into a compact form, without giving way to the bestial aggression Vociferante creates. In that way, it's quite similar to a Clad-type Fullbring.[14] Ylva was a skilful user of the Lōcuria state, for she employed it during the war against Shinigami and Reikon Kyuuban alike, to such great effect that Vlad remembered her centuries later.[3] Once assumed, she gains a number of wolf-like attributes. Chiefly her hair turns white, with fur adorning her upper body, breasts, stomach, arms, and legs.[1]

  • Frenético: Much of the culture and social cues of the Presas race were based on and guided by strength, coupled by pure animal instinct.[5] The greater the bloodlust, the greater the strength of the Presas in question, with no set ceiling.[12] Ylva generally restricted her use of this particular trait to her Lōcuria state, yielding even further increases to her physical capacities without surrendering her sanity with the release of Vociferante.[13]

Wolf transformation[]

Ylva showcased a rare disposition towards the Lōcuria technique, for she could control the level of her transformation, allowing for additional forms unseen amongst her contemporaries. Whilst the technique married bestial strength with a humanoid shape, while allowing one to retain their mind, Ylva could take the transformation in a different route, forsaking the humanoid form in favour of a bestial form. This provided her with a form akin to a large wolf, similar to those passed down through the ages in mythology.

  • Disguise: The main benefit of this state was that it altered both the nature of Ylva's reiatsu and the sound of her voice which, coupled with the change in physical appearance not commonly seen in user's of Lōcuria, provided a complete disguise.
  • Immense Speed: Much of the physical enhancement common to Lōcuria is evident in Ylva's wolf form, albeit focused less on brute strength and more on speed. Her speed in this form exceeds her standard Lōcuria-enhanced movements by a fair margin, to the point she gained fame as the "sun-chaser" and "moon chaser" in mythology.
  • Immense jaw strength: A Presas, whether they be transformed or not, fights primarily with fang and claw.[12] The biting force Ylva possesses in her wolf form is excessive, to the point of puncturing Hollow hide and even Hierro with casual ease.

Vociferante[]

Ylva disliked the Vociferante state, preferring the lesser Lōcuria, for at least it allowed her to retain her mind. For Vociferante fully transforms the user into a mindless, bloodthirsty monster, whose savage attacks and brutal disposition in unmatched.[13]
