The Yūrei Police Force (幽霊警察力) is an organization created in order to enforce the laws of Yūrei and to protect city interests. The police force existed at the start of Yūrei's settlement and growth. Because of the switch in policies concerning their value, the members of both the military and the police conflict with each other and maintain a steady rivalry between each other. Currently, that competition seems to be on the rise and at its peak in the Children of Izanami arc, where feelings become more outward and assertive.

History[]

Yūrei's police force was established some thousand years ago along with the creation of the civilization itself. At the time, there was no need for a military force due to the dictator-like control the police had over civilians in order to ensure peace and order. The restrictive grip effectively nullified freedoms, and lives were at the hands of the government. However, out of desire to compete with other soul societies, the King issued forth the creation of a military force that would rival outsider forces. Indirectly, this shifted the King's attention towards the military, their importance of handling intersociety issues constantly overriding the importance of internal issues. Police officers began to feel the sting of being turned on, their resentment towards soldiers increasing when troops began to jeer and taunt them for, in their view, being useless elements. This was the start of a bitter rivalry and competition between the military and the police in an effort to gain the government's respect.

It wasn't until the time of Seiten Kurokara's rule that things started to take a shift. The entry of the Kurosaki family into the city would begin to increase tensions within the city. However, what served as the sparks of the open war between the military and the surfacing rebel forces was a violent incident in which Tereya Kurosaki fought against and slaughtered dozens of police officers attempting to apprehend her for not meeting the "Job at 21" law. After several months of planning, rebel forces unleashed a massive assault on the military and police forces. With the assistance of the Kurosaki family, the rebels overthrew Seiten. His most trusted general, Damian Seken, killed himself in order to evade capture and death at the hands of Tereya later on. With them ousted from leadership, people loyal to the rebellion joined the police and military force, and tensions between the two groups eased for some time.
