Changes to Infoboxes on Bleach Fan Fiction Wiki 2023[]

Portable infoboxes have been around for a while. The gist is that they are meant to integrate with mobile so that people using their phones (those mouth breathers) can still read your tables and information on various custom bananakai and whatever you want to put on your article without things being invisible. Y'know, like a certain walled empire, lurking in the shadows. Eh? Eh? Yeah, no more of that invisible shadow crap.

Anyway. It's time BFF got with the times and also integrated our infoboxes to be portable. In an effort of continuing to improve the quality of BFF, we have decided to initiate a site-wide infobox policy. This means that, instead of 500+ custom infoboxes existing due to every user's whim and fancy, we're going to require users to add a pre-existing template to their articles. For those of you who spent too much time in coloring books as a child, this news may be heartbreaking. For the rest of us, it might be a bit "meh." Regardless, here is the important information that all users should be aware of:

1. All Infoboxes Must Be Portable[]

Going forth, any infobox a user wants to make in order to add to an article needs to be portable. Furthermore, users MUST use portable infoboxes on any new article they create.

2. New Custom Infoboxes Must Be Approved[]

To ensure consistency and to eliminate redundancy, a mod needs to approve a custom infobox designed by a user. That means the mod will take a look to make sure that:

a) An infobox doesn't already exist that fulfills the purpose of the custom infobox.
b) A simple parameter can't just be added to a pre-existig site-wide infobox. E.g., adding "Magic" for Witches/Wizards to the "Hybrid" infobox to cut down on the number of infoboxes that exist on this site.

If neither of the above apply, then the custom infobox will be approved for creation/use.

3. New Naming Scheme[]

All portable infoboxes need to follow the page title format of '''[[Template:Name Infobox]]'''. For CUSTOM portable infoboxes the format should be '''[[Template:Name Infobox (ABC)]]''', with "ABC" being the acronyms/abbreviation of the creator's username.

This will allow us to quickly see if someone is using a custom infobox without permission. It also allows us to easily search ALL existing infoboxes on the wiki.

4. Grandfather Clauses[]

We will keep the classic, non-portable infoboxes for users who wish to keep the "old look" for the consistency of their own articles.

You may use classic infoboxes (nonportable) IF

1. You were a member (contributed edits) on or before January 1, 2018
2. The majority of your articles (60% or more) use the classic infobox styling.
3. You may not create NEW classic non-portable infoboxes. Use or edit what already exists.

5. Pre-Existing Infoboxes[]

If you already are using a custom infobox on your article, whether classic or portable, they need to be significantly different from the site-wide templates. If they are not significantly different, they will be 'Wahrwelted' (i.e., replaced) by a site-wide template.

Note: In this case, "significantly different" refers to the information and/or parameters in use, not the design/layout of the infobox.

Final Notes[]

This is a massive undertaking and switching over the templates to be sitewide and portable will take time. Be prepared to see small changes over the course of several months vs. huge changes all at once.

Also, the Templates page is meant to be comprehensive. If you see something that is missing that you'd like to add to an article, let a member of staff know and we'll design one for you.

Thanks for your understanding and patience in this.

After 900 years, the portable infoboxes regained their uniformity
After 90 years, consistency in design
In 9 years, they were integrated
And in 9 days, the wiki was conquered.
