This article, Tsuneo Endō, was added by Lecliss who determines its usage on this wiki.

"Not even a Magician can lift the crushing weight of family.”

Tsuneo Endō (淵藤庸男, Endō Tsuneo) is the eldest of the six Endō children. As with the rest of his siblings, Tsuneo has been spiritually aware his whole life, but he lacks any powers or special talents unlike them. After his father's death he is promoted from President to owner and CEO of the family company.

Appearance[]

Tsuneo is a tall man with pale skin, yellow eyes, and short wavy blue hair that sometimes covers his left eye. He commonly wears lots of jewelry that includes earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings. When working he wears a black suit, but outside of work he tends to wear a white shirt with a light striped jacket and black pants.

Personality[]

Tsuneo has a problem with believing nothing is ever his fault and shifting the blame onto others. He words his apologies like "I'm sorry you think that" or "That's not true, but I'm sorry you feel that way". He always sees other people's feelings or "misinterpretations" as the problem instead of questioning if his own actions were wrong. He also resents his younger siblings, seeing them as better than him and that they all believe that. He resents being the only one who doesn't have something special about them. Iyori is an Iaidō champion, Yorito and Shiemi have stronger spiritual awareness than the rest of the siblings, Kūzen is a Fullbringer, and Naoe has precognition, but Tsuneo believes he has nothing that allows him to stand out.

He tends to overcompensate for his perceived lack of uniqueness with a flamboyant attitude. When not around his family, Tsuneo is outgoing and has a way with words. He is seen as an upperclass socialite who is popular with many women.

When it comes to the family business, Tsuneo is very calculating. He has a penchant for business and knows how to read the market almost as well as his father. Many people in the company defer to him for advice and he is a trusted president. However, he can sometimes be more feared by employees than even his father as he accepts no mistakes and has a tendency to yell at them when business doesn't go his way.

Tsuneo has complicated feelings about his father. As a son and child he always wanted his father's attention of course, but he also despises the man for never giving him that attention. He tries hard to please Mikado as the president of Endō Enterprises and eventually take over the man's position as CEO. However, when Mikado dies and gets handed everything by the board of directors due to his father having no will, Tsuneo feels empty. He realizes all he wanted was his father's recognition and now he has no aspirations about running the company. Upon discovering that the family maid's son, Itsuki, is his half-brother, Tsuneo directs all his left over rage at Itsuki and his mother, Mei.

Tsuneo's relationship with his first younger brother, Iyori, is also incredibly tumultuous, but only on Tsuneo's side. Iyori is the one Tsuneo is most jealous of. He sees Iyori as self-centered and egotistical and a two-faced liar simply because he thinks Iyori's personality is entirely made up to be manipulative and deceptive. Iyori, however, treats Tsuneo as kindly as he treats everyone else, causing Tsuneo to think its a form of taunting on Iyori's part. He can't bring himself to view anything about Iyori as genuine or honest due to his own clouded perception.

History[]

Tsuneo was born as the first child of Mikado and Hayami Endō in Karakura Town. As the son of a rich CEO, many responsibilities were expected to be placed on his shoulders from the moment he was born. However, Tsuneo's first younger brother, Iyori, was born just two years later, followed by his second brother, Yorito, four years after Iyori. Tsuneo never had time to establish himself as an individual before his life was shared by his brothers.

As the boys grew up and they were later accompanied by their first sister, Shiemi, and another brother, Kūzen, it became evident that Iyori was the golden boy of the family while Yorito proved to be an academic prodigy. Tsuneo, however, seemed average in comparison. He was passed over for much of their father's attention in favor of Iyori, who looked likely to become the heir instead of Tsuneo. The longer this went on, the more envious and resentful Tsuneo grew.

When their mother began to fall ill as a result of an incident before Kūzen was born, Tsuneo, as the eldest, was most aware of the situation. While Tsuneo had a good relationship with his mother, he focused more on his relationship with his father and so he felt like he abandoned his mother once he realized he might lose her. Following her death a year after thei youngest sibling, Naoe, was born, Mei stepped up to act as a mother to the kids. Tsuneo, however, refused her attempts and saw her as trying to replace their mother.

He began to focus his attention on his father's business and tried to show how interested he was in becoming involved. While his father didn't turn him down, the man still clearly favored Iyori. By the time Tsuneo finished high school, he prepared to enter college for a business degree to further look like a preferred heir over Iyori. However, it seemed as though Tsuneo didn't need to go that far since his father hired him onto the company shortly after. Once Iyori finished school as well, he focused on his Iaidō training to enter more professional tournaments. Tsuneo finally began to relax a bit as it looked like he got what he wanted.

Plot[]

Welcome to Fubuki City Arc[]

Tsuneo is present with the rest of the family in the living room when Kūzen and Naoe come home from school. Their father makes an announcement that the family is moving north to Fubuki City in Hokkaido for family business.

Mother Arc[]

When Mikado is in the hospital after the first attack from a Hollow, Tsuneo is made the acting CEO of the company for the time being. When Mikado returns to work, Tsuneo is told he did a well enough job, which initially sounds like praise to him but he eventually realizes he only did a barely passing job according to his father.

When the Hollow that attacked Mikado returns while the family is out together, Tsuneo is the first to notice something familiar about the Hollow, known as Mother. After she fatally injures Mikado, Tsuneo and Shiemi work on trying to keep him alive. They fail and Mikado dies even despite Kūzen and Kotsuru defeating her. Tsuneo attempts to console Shiemi, who breaks down as a result.

Along with his siblings, Tsuneo witnesses all networks in the city be hijacked by The Guard, who announces that following the death of Mikado Endō, they will be taking control of Fubuki City for everyone's own good.

The Guard Arc[]

Following Mikado's death, Tsuneo stands before Endō Enterprises' board of directors as they ask him to take on his father's role as CEO. With his previous position of president now empty, the board recommends Iyori be hired to replace Tsuneo for the job. Baffled at the idea as Iyori has never been involved in the family business before, Tsuneo initially declines and offers to find someone with prior experience. However, the board refuses to accept someone else for the position other than one of the Endō children and Iyori is the only other adult among them aside from Yorito, who is still in school. Tsuneo reluctantly agrees to discuss the matter with Iyori first.

He spends much of his free time going over his father's possessions at the estate with Iyori. They find a locked safe in their father's office that they have never seen before and try to find the code for it. Unsuccessful, Iyori tries to break it open, but fails.

Tsuneo's Decision Arc[]

A month later, Tsuneo is finishing up cleaning his father's office when he finds a hidden compartment in the desk. He discovers the code to the safe he and Iyori previously found and finally opens it. What he discovers is documentation related to Itsuki and bank records of extra payments to Mei. A paper contains the results of a DNA test that states Mikado is Itsuki's father. Coming to the realization that Itsuki is only two years younger than Naoe and it had to have been at most a year after his mother's death that the secret relationship began, Tsuneo is overcome with rage.

Keeping the secret to himself for the time being, Tsuneo is in his office at work when Shuya Yoruhisa waltzes into the room. Tsuneo questions how Shuya got past security and his secretary, but Shuya refuses to explain. Shuya asks to speak with him and Tsuneo says they're past the point of asking, so Shuya might as well say what he wants.

Shuya and Hojan Arc[]

Following the rescue of Itsuki, Tsuneo is approached by Iyori, who wishes to have a calm and sincere talk with him.

Hunger Arc[]

Fifteen months later, together with Iyori, Tsuneo has downsized the family company just a bit to make it more manageable for them.

The Thousand-Year Blood War Arc[]

Echoing Jaws of Hell Arc[]

Tsuneo is briefly seen in a board meeting alongside Iyori with Shiemi as his secretary.

Powers & Abilities[]

Quotes[]

  • (To Kūzen, Kotsuru, and Wakana) "Are these new friends of yours, Kūzen? What lovely young ladies. Thank you both for taking the time to get to know my little brother. After all he can be a bit... brash."
  • (About Mikado's death) "Now that I think about it... I must have always hated him. He probably never liked me anyway. But... what did I even do? What did I... not do? I was just a kid. I tried everything to get him to like me. My whole life I just wanted him to look at me. Really truly see me. And now that he's gone, and everything's mine... what's the point? He's not here to acknowledge it. And it pisses me off. And realizing that pisses me off again. I never actually wanted any of this. I just wanted the bastard to look at me. Isn't that... pathetic."
  • (To Iyori) "You think you're so perfect, don't you?! You parade around like the world's most perfect man, the perfect son, the perfect champion, the perfect everything! And I'm sick and tired of it! The bastard is dead! You don't have to show off anymore! Or do you just love the attention that much?! Are you just that self-centered?! Everyone has to bask in awe at how amazing Iyori is! Everyone has to praise the ground you walk on! Well it's over now, Iyori! It ends today!"
