Takami Minamoto (源氏高み, Minamoto Takami) is the current captain of the Thirteenth Division of the Gotei 13 and the former lieutenant of the Kidō Corps underneath an unnamed captain. Takami was chosen for the role above potential candidates such as Rukia Kuchiki — his lieutenant — as a result of his greater experience and mastery over crucial abilities such as the Bankai.

As the current captain of the 13th Division, it is undoubted that Takami possesses a level of power unseen in most Shinigami in this day and age. In fact, Takami has always been a natural prodigy, having taken only a year and a half to graduate from the Shinō Academy due to a personal setback by the elders of his clan, along with being the most powerful member of the Minamoto Clan till date. He has earned the praise of Shunsui Kyōraku, among others, as one of the greatest captains of the Gotei 13 in this day and age, second only to himself in terms of the sheer power and skill he possesses and remarks that even with the gap left by the departure of Jūshirō Ukitake, Takami fills it almost completely with the nature of his abilities.

As expected from the former Vice Kidō Chief of Soul Society, Takami bears a comprehensive knowledge over all forms of Kidō that is only seconded by the Grand Kidō Chief, something which is, till this date, debatable among those who have witnessed the two secretive members in action. He is noted to have paid an enormous amount of attention to the perfection of this art which, while initially resulting in his physical abilities to be diminished, later became the catalyst for their growth as well.
