Ikari (怒り, "Wrath"), born Tōru Yōshanai (容赦ない徹, "Relentless Wayfarer"), is a male Visored and an enforcer of the Archon.
Appearance[]
Tōru appears as a fairly tall and muscular adult Japanese male with fair complexion. The shape of his face is triangular, with a straight nose and high cheekbones. He has got spiky, upright hair of jet black colour, with some strands hanging over his forehead. His eyes are eerily piercing, their grey colour similar to that of ash or smoke. The eyebrows feature noticeable high arches.
His predominantly dark purple attire consists of an undershirt, an ash grey kaku obi, form-fitting yoroi hakama, and a pair of combat boots.
Personality[]
The man aptly nicknamed "Ikari", that is "wrath", displays personality and behaviour that may be likened to a blaze. Not just the phenomenon itself, but the entire process. Normally, he seems to be fairly calm and taciturn, laid-back, almost amiable. Quick to smile, and offer a witty remark. However, as little as a single word might serve as the spark that lights the metaphorical fire. Should he find an opponent, whether verbal or in battle, his true colours are gradually revealed.
Soon, his bold and violent nature becomes more and more apparent. His smile fades away, replaced by an intense frown. His humourous comments turn abrasive, cruel. Any pretense of a friendly disposition is dropped as he viciously attacks the enemy, both with words and rapid sword strikes. The longer the conflict lasts, the more his ferocity escalates. Barely contained, his hot temper maintains an increasing severity, and explodes in sudden outbursts every once in a while. Fixated upon complete annihilation of the enemy, Tōru never relents. Whether they attempt to flee, defend, or fight back, he is unyielding. Typically, only when the opposition turns to ashes does his fury begin to subside. The blaze abates, leaving smouldering ruins in its wake, and he becomes calm and quiet again. For a time.
Plot[]
Powers and Abilities[]
Master Swordsman: As it is by far his preferred method of combat, Tōru has honed his skill in swordsmanship to an exemplary degree. The flexibility and versatility of chūyōdō serve as the framework that allows him to fluently combine sword strikes with physical blows. However, his actual fighting style relies upon the violent kōseidō. Ferocious, oppressive, and fast, he showers the enemy with an incessant volley of crushing slashes and piercing sallies, all the while he manoeuvres about them in a series of dynamic leaps. He charges, tackles, rends, and severs, unabated. And those who might initially consider him a simple brute quickly find out that his moves are not only devastating, but fluid, efficient, and incredibly precise as well. Shunpo Master: Whilst the thought of retreating hardly ever crosses his mind, he is more than capable of dodging a quick point-blank strike if need be. Furthermore, he is fully prepared to pursue those that would like to flee from him. Ikari eschews the training of high-level Hohō techniques in favour of polishing the fundamental ability of swift movement. As such, he is undeniably fast and nimble, so that he may nigh-effortlessly chase down most Captain-class opponents, truly relentless. Hakuda Expert: Moreover, he is a very proficient unarmed combatant. Each backhand, uppercut, or a roundhouse kick is less a deliberate interlude, and more a natural element of his overall fighting style. In fact, he is so competent in the martial arts that he can easily subdue a Lieutenant-class opponent without so much as drawing his sword. Kidō Practitioner: Basic understanding of magic grants Ikari an array of useful techniques, such as spells that allow him to bind, track down, or defend from his opponents. This serves to supplement his otherwise direct, offensive fighting style. |
Immense Strength: In accordance with his ferocious fighting style, Tōru displays a degree of physical strength far beyond the ordinary, and employs it with brutal efficiency. There is little that can withstand his crushing sword strikes or punches unscathed. Every single slash seems as though capable of cutting a hill in twain, every sally of piercing several metres of solid rock with nary an effort, every swing produces a torrential gust of wind that levels nearby buildings and uproots trees as a mere side effect. To confront him in direct combat is to court death. Immense Durability: Not only can he inflict severe damage with but a couple of sword swings or physical strikes, he can endure retaliation just as well. Low-level techniques merely glance off his hardened flesh harmlessly, and even many a heavy blow frequently accomplishes no more than a minor bruise or laceration. Whilst Ikari can block, parry, and evade attacks, most of the time he simply does not have to. Rather than waste time defending himself, he focuses on relentless offence, shrugging off counter-strikes like the veritable juggernaut that he is. Immense Endurance: Furthermore, his ability to continue fighting at high throttle is no less impressive. Despite the fact that his fighting style is aggressive, dynamic, and physically straining, his powerful strikes rain down upon the opponent endlessly, unabated. One might hope to avoid his fury long enough for the first signs of fatigue to hamper his performance - a fool's errand. Enhanced Reflexes: Agility is not Tōru's main asset. However, to consider him slow might lead to committing a grave mistake. Sharpened throughout countless battles, dangerous assassination missions, and intense sparring sessions, his reflexes are sufficient to perform remarkably well in close combat without relying solely on his strength and toughness to compensate. Immense Spiritual Power: Recognised as gifted from the moment of his birth, Tōru certainly did not disappoint as he matured. The wealth of spiritual power at his disposal significantly exceeds that commonly associated with a Captain-class fighter. As such, he is not to be underestimated even by some of the strongest warriors that dwell in the Soul Society and beyond. When exerted, the visible emanations of his power manifest as a vaguely flame-like, undulating aura of blood red colour. Invariably experienced as chilly by whoever has got the misfortune of being in his vicinity.

Kokkan Moshō (酷寒猛暑, "Bitter Cold and Fierce Heat"): The sealed form of the Zanpakutō appears as a tachi with a serrated circular tsuba. The hilt is wrapped in cloth of cool grey colour.
|
Hollowfication: Tōru dons a Hollow mask that resembles a stylised, frowning face as could be depicted in kabuki. The eye slits are wreathed in flame-like patterns of blood red colour. Even though unlike his companion, Zetsubō, he summons the mask only for the purpose of high-level combat, he does not seem to be particularly concerned about any associated effort. If there is a limit to how long he can sustain his Hollowfication, it does not appear to be an important factor.
