"The Empress holds a wilting flower in her hand, waiting for a knight to water it."

Shiemi Endō (淵藤志咲, Endō Shiemi) is the fourth of the Endō children. As with the rest of her siblings, Shiemi has been spiritually aware her whole life and her proximity to the Hōgyoku in Karakura Town has strengthened her awareness. While living in Osaka to attend college as a statistics major, she becomes an ally to the Kiryū siblings.

Appearance[]

Shiemi Endo profile 2 placeholder

Shiemi's casual outfit

Shiemi is a teen girl with pale skin, yellow eyes, and long light blue hair. Small parts of her hair are held up in short pigtails. When not wearing the Kazahana Academy uniform, she usually wears a black turtleneck with a gray dress and brown boots.

Fifteen months after Aizen's defeat, Shiemi's hair has grown longer but her pigtails are now shorter. She wears a brown sweater vest with a diamond pattern over a black button up and a dark brown pleated skirt. She also wears black ankle boots.

Two years after Kūzen loses his Fullbring, Shiemi has cut her hair to its original length and her pigtails are as long as the rest of her hair. She wears a pale green frilly dress with a small black long sleeved jacket. She has dark green ribbons in her hair and wears pale pink stockings with dark green wedge heels.

Ten years after Yhwach's defeat, Shiemi wears a black suit with a pencil skirt and has her hair loose.

Personality[]

Shiemi is a kind and gentle girl, if not a bit of a wallflower as well. She tends to be rather quiet, especially compared to her much louder brothers. She is a bit more mature for her age due to trying to help take care of her two younger brothers after the passing of their mother. Shiemi is rather introspective and contemplative, spending many conversations thinking to herself rather than really engaging in the topic.

As the only daughter of a company CEO and without a mother, Shiemi is often ignored in favor of her older brothers. This leaves her feeling alone and so she tries to rectify the issue by making herself useful around the house and acting as a mediator when her brothers fight. She is the only one who has tried to be understanding to both Kūzen and Yorito.

Following the defeat of Shuya and Hojan, Shiemi becomes a little more outgoing. She is able to form stronger bonds with her brothers, becomes good friends with Cynthia, and grows comfortable with speaking her mind. She is eventually seen as incredibly friendly and approachable by her classmates in Osaka as well.

Her big sister instincts allow her to get through to a few of the Tugends due to their newfound childlike mentalities and she is even better at understanding Renge's needs than the likes of Subeka and Harumasa. She is successfully able to empathize with the feelings of Equity and Eleos as well, seeing the similarities to her own brothers in them.

Shiemi enjoys spending her free time by learning how to dance. Being interested in ballerinas all her life, she initially dreamed of being one, but her family matters kept her from pursuing lessons. Instead she loves watching plays and musicals--her favorite being The Nutcracker. She has a small interest in idol and magical girl anime, but her lack of interest in watching television keeps her from really getting into the genres. However, she has been occassionally caught perusing shoujo mangas at libraries and bookstores.

History[]

Shiemi was born as the fourth child and only daughter of Mikado and Hayami Endō. Being behind three older brothers Shiemi spent her early years being overlooked by her father and reassured by her mother. After her two younger brothers, Kūzen and Naoe, were born, Shiemi did her best to be a present older sister for them. Following the death of their mother, Shiemi worked harder to be a supporting pillar for her younger brothers and forged a better relationship with Iyori as the only seemingly rational two left in the family.

When they were young, Kūzen showed off his blossoming Fullbring powers to Shiemi, but she urged him to keep it a secret for his own sake. Later on, she found Kūzen sifting through some of their mothers old belongings and he found one half of a set of earrings. Shiemi encouraged him to take it as a memory of their mother to keep for himself.

After Rukia Kuchiki gave her Soul Reaper powers to Ichigo Kurosaki and began attending Karakura High School, Shiemi's proximity to Rukia--and therefore the Hōgyoku--as a classmate of theirs led to a strengthening of her spiritual awareness, just the same as with Tatsuki Arisawa and Keigo Asano. She was aware of strange happenings at school and an increase of Hollows around town, but she made an effort to keep her distance from these incidents for her own safety.

She informs them that Tsuneo just left and Yorito refused to come. Kūzen asks Shiemi what condition their father in and she informs him their father should recover just fine.

After Mikado is released from the hospital, he decides to gather all his kids to have a day out in the city as a family. While Kūzen and Naoe are gone, Shiemi witnesses Mother return to attack Mikado. While Kūzen returns to fight Mother, Shiemi and Tsuneo try to aid Mikado. They are unable to help him, however, as Mother slips past Kūzen and stabs Mikado. She watches in horror as Mother devours Mikado's Soul. Shiemi and Tsuneo are then protected from Mother's incoming attack by Kotsuru's arrival. When Mother finally reveals that she is the children's actual mother, Hayami, turned into a Hollow, Shiemi suffers a breakdown and Tsuneo tries to comfort her.

Following Mother's defeat at the hands of Kūzen and Kotsuru, the family is saved and authorities arrive to take Mikado's body away. Hours later, the family and Kotsuru watch all televisions in the city show the same broadcast of The Guard announcing to the whole city that they are taking full control of it for everyone's own good.

Hunger Arc[]

Fifteen months later, Shiemi is the first to notice Kūzen's change in behavior. Shiemi finally mentions it in passing to Cynthia thay Kūzen has been acting weird, such as overeating and leaving the house at night. Yorito overhears them and advises not prying into Kūzen's business. However, Shiemi and Cynthia agree to follow Kūzen the next night anyway. They are surprised by Yorito suddenly joining them. They witness Kūzen leaving the house through his window, but are unable to keep up with him and can only follow his trail from a far distance. They can't confirm exactly what he's doing, but Shiemi and Yorito consistently notice Hollows that they sense suddenly disappearing. Assuming Kūzen is out killing Hollows at night, the trio aren't too worried about it and don't suspect anything is off about it aside from finding it unnecessary of Kūzen to do.

Shiemi aids in trying to subdue Kūzen as he starts to Hollowfy. She takes the side of not wanting to mercy kill Kūzen.

After everything returns to normal within the family, Tsuneo approaches Shiemi saying that he wishes for her to join the family business after school. Shiemi reveals she was actually hunting for a college to apply to, but wasn't sure what she wanted to major in. She begins thinking about majors that would most benefit her future job at Endō Enterprises and discovers the Osaka Institute of Technology online.

She first meets Subeka and Harumasa Kiryū while they're looking into the "Campus Girl Killer" case. As a classmate of the most recent victim, the siblings request to ask Shiemi a few questions about her. Shiemi apologizes for not being able to tell them much, as she barely knew the victim. However, she does say that she overheard the victim complaining about a guy who wouldn't stop asking her out, but that only corroborates already suspected information and doesn't help identify the killer.

Shiemi then takes note of Renge, who is with the siblings. She is able to sense that he has a strong spiritual pressure that reminds her of a Hollow. She asks if Renge attends the school, to which Renge denies. Harumasa lies that Renge is the siblings' younger cousin staying with them for the season. Despite suspecting Harumasa's lie, Shiemi leaves the matter be and instead offers her help in solving the case, stating she refuses to let her classmates live in fear on campus.

Powers & Abilities[]

Spiritual Awareness: While having always been spiritually aware, Shiemi's exposure to the Hōgyoku while living in Karakura Town heightened her sensing ability, allowing her to pinpoint the exact location and owner of any source of Reiatsu from a considerable distance. Kūzen refers to her as a living GPS for this.

Mind Pulse: Shiemi gains the ability to release a pulse wave of energy from her body, which she describes as emitting from her head first, hence her referring to it as a mind pulse. This pulse wave can knock back most objects and people around her provided they aren't too heavy and even affects beings made of reishi, such as Hollows and Soul Reapers.

Weaknesses[]

  • Using her mind pulse too many times in a row can result in Shiemi developing a piercing headache eventually followed by losing consciousness.

Trivia[]

  • Shiemi is voiced by Aya Uchida in Japanese and Emily Sun in English.
  • In Japanese, Shiemi refers to herself as “watashi”. She refers to Tsuneo, Iyori, and Yorito as “nii-chan”. She also refers to Naoe as “Nakkun”.

  • Shiemi's theme song is “My Last Breath” by Eyeshine, the band of Ichigo's English voice actor, Johnny Yong Bosch.
