Schatten or Shadow (自己韜晦 (シャドー), Shadō; alt. Shatten, German for "Shadow", Japanese for "Concealing One's Position") is a Quincy transportation technique.
This technique enables the Quincy user to open a pathway between two different dimensions, such as the Soul Society and Schatten Bereich, via a shadow. There are several ways they can extend their shadows in order to use this technique. The most common application is to use their own cast shadows. This application is often employed in the heat of battle and works by forming a shadow that is shaped like the user and then causing it to swiftly overtake them, allowing them to teleport wherever they desire. They may also place their hand on the ground and then swiftly swing their arm outward to create a large cross-shaped portal (as demonstrated by Jugram Haschwalth). Presumably, Yhwach was able to forcibly use Shadow on members of the Wandenreich (namely Asguiaro Ebern) in order to call them back to the Quincy's domain.
