Seia no Rōjinki (老人木の精有, Rōjinki no Seia), less formally known as simply Seia (精有, Seia), and later under the assumed name of Omi Tenka (天下 汚美, Tenka Omi), is a long-lived Shinigami who played a significant role in the original Gotei 13 as the founding captain of its Thirteenth Division. During her tenure Karo Tōsen was her lieutenant. Trapped in Hueco Mundo during an excursion, she was presumed dead long after her disappearance. She would later re-appear in the World of the Living, masquerading as the Fullbringer and elder sister of Emi Tenka.

Appearance[]

Seia is a woman of above average height with an athletic build and dark skin, she has prominent muscle definition on her arms and stomach which fades out elsewhere. She has shaggy and unkempt black hair that reaches as far as her shoulders, with a single clean braid hanging down from the left side of her face. Her fringe has a slight cow lick at the fringe and her hair also has several prominent streaks of red running through it. She has thin eyebrows and slightly curved eyes with deep green irises. She has no really prominent facial features besides a small beauty mark beneath her right eye. Her jawline and chin are somewhat pointed and her lips have strong laugh lines. She most commonly wears a black collared vest with a zip running down the front, often left zipped up to just cover her breasts but leave her neck exposed. She wars a pair of black cargo trousers and workman boots. Three belts adorn her waist coming in at different angles and all running through the same buckle that sits on the left side of her waist. Lastly she wears a necklace with a plue pendant attached.

During her time as a Captain, her hair was much longer, reaching as far down as her waist. It was kept straight and lacked the red streaks of her later hairstyle. She wore the typical Shinigami Shihakushō though the right sleeve was removed. As fitting her rank she wore a Captain's haori with a tyrian purple underside, it had one long left sleeve but lacked a right sleeve like her Shihakushō. During her time in Hueco Mundo she adorned a Hollow mask that looked the skull of a deer over her right shoulder, held in place by a pair of belts, much of her uniform became ragged and worn during this time with ruined and torn edges.

Personality[]

Seia Tulia Honoria by Somnium Fluxus

Seia's full appearance.

Seia no Rōjinki likes to play the part of the laidback and carefree persona, she acts lazily and addresses most concerns with relaxed musings, but it is a thinly veiled gesture at best.[1] Those who spent even short bursts of time with her can see that she is extremely tense and always on alert. She reacts to everything with razor quickness, as if her nerves are on fire with electricity, and she tends to appear worked up. Her muscles are knotted with strain and her eyes maintain bags under them as she tends to maintain a restless sleep at best. She processes information with unusual seriousness and has a habit of fidgeting with anything she can get her hands on, be it her Zanpakutō or anything within arms reach.[2] When questioned on it she never elaborates on what causes this in her, rather she deflects the question with references to Hueco Mundo's dog-eat-dog nature, though she has held this trait since long before her time spent in the land of Hollows. As a side effect, Seia is very easily frustrated, becoming verbally aggressive with whatever serves as the centre of her irritation at the time. To get physical with something of her ire is a rare feat, instead she tends to toss out a myriad of curses from various cultures that she has picked up over her long life, which also doubles as a means of blowing off steam.

Though she feebly attempts to brush off orders and work given to her by others. Claiming that most duties would be better upheld by the younger generation due to her age, and in stark contrast to her relatively youthful appearance. She does not typically fight against work that is pressed on her however, and is actually rather diligent, if not immediately obvious about it. She completes all of the necessary paperwork of her division without a complaint, at least to anyone else, and maintains a hands on approach to the 13th Division's duties within the Seireitei and the Human World. Given the chance, she would actively lead the protection of several districts, though is often unable to due to the sheer amount of administrative work a Captain is faced with. She professes that her favourite past time is doing nothing more than lying down with a bottle of sake but her life style is far more active than that would imply. Long walks through the Seireitei or the Rukongai, frequent sparring matches and outdoorsman activities being some of the most common. As privileged as she has been in life, very few doors remained unopened to her, and so she is unconcerned with such things as authority or nobility, titles and bloodlines hold very little sway over her; its the quality of the person behind them. She views the usage of honorifics as stiff, and so completely discards the practice with reference to others, she is also prone to refer to others around her in familiar terms regardless of how well she may actually know them. She often gives nicknames to others as her own personal means of showing familiarity, something that extends to her own Zanpakutō whom she refers to as Hibanagan (火花単元, Sparks-a-Lot).[1]

On a general level Seia is friendly and accepting of most people regardless of their origins or backgrounds, it takes quite a lot of effort on someone's part to actually offend or put her off from interacting with someone. The world is too vast to let simple eccentricities or oddities stand in the way, she claims. Due to her time spent in several walks of life, she has little trouble with other races and doesn't bear any kind of grudge or animosity towards individual beings for the blankets typically cast on them, it is partly due to this that she counts even Hollows among her friends and allies. Seia is possessed of an immense drive, such that she is incapable of easing her way into things, instead she dives headfirst into whatever is before her. Half-measures are beyond her and subtle gestures are not her thing, at least not intentionally, which can sometimes paint her as unusual or archaic in any given situation. While she isn't unintelligent she simply prefers to be straightforward, to her, simplicity is best. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the length of time she spent in Hueco Mundo, Seia has a degree of ruthlessness to her that likes to make itself known on occasion, having once suggested a hostile takeover of Hueco Mundo and complete domination over its inhabitants. She usually advocates the aggressive approach, battle over diplomacy, domination before subjugation, death instead of capture, though she has mellowed out somewhat over the years, she is unmistakably a member of the original Captains of the Gotei 13, who were all feared as brutal killers.

Seia is also possessed of a great deal of pride, a personal one, that is centered around her personal accomplishments. She has sat in several lofty positions in her time, the first Captain of the Thirteenth Division, her name had even gained traction in the Forest of Menos, thus she found it hard to settle for most normal accomplishments or achievements in her life as everyone else was already singing them as praises or spurring them as dreaded rumour. She doesn't openly speak of what she has seen and done, instead she wears her achievements as badges of honour, though she is usually the only one aware of the significance of her trophies. The necklace she wears, the mask she carried in Hueco Mundo, even the fact that her Shinigami uniform lacks sleeves on only one side are all manners in which Seia expresses her success. The Gotei 13 is known to have made a dramatic shift in its approach following the first Quincy Blood War as they found themselves a reason to fight. Seia's was, and still is, the people. The very men and women that make up the ranks of the Gotei, those people that spilled their blood in the defense of the Seireitei, the innocent people of the Rukongai who toil through an existence that can be extremely cruel to them all on the matter of a gamble. She fights for what she states are "[her] people", an intentionally vague phrasing that grows or shrinks to encapsulate a great many individuals at any one time. At one point she could use it to justify drawing her sword for a single man in the middle of a dark alley, at another, an entire nation.

She has several hobbies with which to partake in her free time, not the least of which is the creation of Tyrian purple dye, which her homeland is famous for, and the knowledge of which was passed on to her by her father. Seia enjoys crafting the dye, particularly in small sets that she gives off to others as a gift. She enjoys sparring and training, as well as long walks through the Seireitei and Rukon Districts, even going out of her way to hike in whatever mountainous areas she can find. She loves coastal landmarks, which remind her of home, and are one of the few things capable of causing her to naturally relax. She dabbles in fishing and fish keeping from time to time and is directly responsible for getting the 13th Division barracks its own koi fish rather than the practice of stealing from the Kuchiki Manor that Yachiru Kusajishi took to. She is an amateur writer, once having published a small serial called "Rukongai on the Waves" that focused on tourism aspects of individual districts, her penmanship, by her own admission, is markedly terrible and at one time earned her the nickname "Kumokaki" (蜘蛛書き, Spider Writer). She greatly enjoys drinking sake and scotch, as well as an undying taste for a variety of Indian-style curries.

Powers & Abilities[]

Natural Abilities

Tremendous Spiritual Power: Seia has always had an incredible amount of spiritual energy, to the point of being considered a monster by most who happen to encounter it. In her Human years her spiritual power was tamed by exerting itself through her willpower. She cried out internally for a means to be useful, to help and protect those around her, and her Reiryoku brought that into existence giving her the powers of a Medium. The raw power at her disposal was lauded even by the likes of Humanity, such that Seia was treated as a daughter of the goddess Astarte; a Demi-God in the eyes of her people. A Heavenly nuance, her power as always been associated with the divine and physically draws its presence from connotations associated with the Sun, as such fire and lightning both, are commonly associated with Seia. Though her willpower served as an outlet, her lack of understanding and training in control of spiritual energy served both to limit and harm her. Manifesting as bursts of electrical energy, her power could easily incapacitate and outright kill just about anyone or thing in the Human World, and with no control over it, such events were bound to happen more than once and it did. She died relatively young in her Human life and so the problems of her power were never brought to the fore there, but at spirits, especially powerful ones, tended to live far longer lives, the necessity of training became a quick reality once Seia arrived in Soul Society.

The Rukongai District of Rōjinki experienced a large amount of casualties and infrastructural damage as a result of Seia's presence, and because of its relative distance from the Seireitei, it remains largely rural as a result, even a thousand years after the fact. Seia's untamed spiritual power is lethal and vicious. It acts as if it had a mind of its own, quickly and ruthlessly extinguishing life that could not bare the strength of its wrath. The density of her Reiryoku is such that she would see the spirit of her Zanpakutō in her dreams, long before Rairyōken had even come to exist as a sword. The reality of her power, however, was that it was still immature, even at its current strength there was still room for it to grow and strengthen. A key part of this was her lack of control. As Seia did not understand the mechanics behind Reiryoku she had no means of controlling it and preventing it from seeping out of her body. Most normal individuals, even those with higher amounts of spiritual energy are able to lead relatively normal lives regardless of whether they can control their Reiryoku or not, this is because the amount of Reiryoku that they lose is relative to the strength of their soul and generally doesn't present much of an issue. Seia's soul experienced a form of hyperactivity which caused it to generate far greater amounts of Reiryoku than it needed or could handle and expunging this energy quickly threatened to consume her and a large portion of the Rukongai in the process. A Balancer of Souls, Kenpachi Amakyō prevented this from happening by taking Seia under his wing and teaching her the methods to control the overbearing power she happened to carry.

The benefits of such a monolithic energy being brought under control are immense and numerous. Even when her power was not under control it easily managed to bring seven spiritual entities into existence with nothing but raw energy and the desire to do so. Spiritual beings are much longer lived than their Human counterparts, such that living a thousand years is not uncommon. This is because spirits happen to age slower, a feat that is in part dictated by the growth and maturity of their Reiryoku. Seia ages at a rate many times slower than even other spirits, and despite living more than two thousand years she is still largely youthful in appearance which suggests that even now, her Reiryoku continues to grow. She can bolster and reinforce her natural physical attributes by having this energy flood her body, making her instantly as strong or even stronger than individuals who have spent their entire lives on physical improvement, though there are limits to what she can achieve with this as her body as its own limits. With tight knit control over it she can even manipulate her Reiryoku outside of her body, preventing it from being swallowed by ambient Reishi, even without having expressed it as Reiatsu. This allows her to achieve feats such as constructing objects that have physical weight, but no visual form to anyone other than Seia, though such items are transient and exist for exceedingly short periods of time.

This comes as no surprise really, as amongst even the first generation of Captains of the Gotei, often claimed to have been the strongest incarnation of the group, Seia's spiritual power was seen as monstrous. Each of these legendary individuals were known for specialising in a particular field that earned them their fame. For Seia the field that she specialised in was undoubtedly that of Reiryoku and its many applications. It is an intrinsic part of who she is, and has even left indelible marks on her personality. When manifested her spiritual power radiates with an intense blue shine, it may be formed into the shape of a giant wolf's head if enough of that energy is drawn out, even further she can manifest a full colossal form of a wolf if the reality of her energy is brought to the fore.

  • Flawless Reiatsu Control: There is but one long held truth between spiritual beings and their conflicts with each other; Whoever has the stronger Reiatsu will win. It is an idea that goes uncontested from either side of the divide. In this respect, then, Seia is an absolute monster in battle, even when compared alongside her fellow Captains, all of whom are known for engaging in brutal conflicts of their own. To be able to calm the tide that is her monumental Reiryoku is no easy task, and to be able to manifest it as she does in the form of Reiatsu squashes any idea that she is anything less than a master of her craft. More often than not, Reiatsu is used for a single overreaching purpose by the vast majority of those who possess it and that is to overpower their enemies. Reiatsu is expressed as a simplistic and raw force that crushes down anything within its reach. This is ultimately wasteful as stretching ones Reiatsu so thin invites complications, especially from one's competitors. While Seia could do this, and she could very well stretch her Reiatsu out across a massive expanse if she felt the desire, she instead prefers the approach of layering her Reiatsu. This halves the effective radius that she can stretch it out to, but doubles the strength of the affected area as a result. She typically does this multiple times, so that her Reiatsu covers a radius not too far from herself but could outright pulverise those who step into her grasp unawares. Allowing her own Reiatsu to effect herself is one means by which she trains her body's physical toughness as well.
Of course, there is more to using Reiatsu than exerting it as raw force. Rairyōken, the strongest lightning-type Zanpakutō, is Seia's companion and this is reflected in her Reiatsu which itself acts as an elemental representative of electricity. Whilst untrained, her Reiatsu would manifest as bolts of electrical energy, coursing across every aspect of her general vicinity and lashing out at anything that got in its way. Her Reiatsu is dangerous even today, after learning to control it. Even in its most passive state, Seia's Reiatsu is volatile, which causes her body to emit a potent form of electronic interference. This makes travelling in the modernised Human World practically impossible with the abundance of technology and Humanity's increased reliance on them to function as a society. The technology employed by the Gotei 13, in its half-organic, half-technological state had to be proofed against her in order to keep functioning. This essentially makes stealth impossible for Seia, even if she were to hide her Reiatsu from others' spiritual senses. That said, what she lacks in subtlety she more than makes up for in practical application. With just a flex of these spiritual muscles she can eradicate poisons and infections from her body, both mundane and those conjured by special abilities and can likewise use this function to purge other negative effects from her person, such as most Bakudō spells or restrictive charms. Only an advanced master in the art of Kidō has any real hope of debilitating Seia against the heights of her spiritual power. In a more straightforward sense, she can manipulate her Reiatsu to manifest as bolts of lightning, spawning in her grasp to be thrown like powerful javelins, or emerging from the sky to rain down on an unwary foe. When exerted with precision her spiritual pressure can create a feeling of tension in the air, as well as applying it in the form of mental and emotional strain, though it is easier done to those of obviously lower power than herself, Seia has been shown capable of afflicting even Captains with these effects.
  • Zenrai Udai (全雷宇内, All the Lightning in All of the World): It is not enough to say that Seia's Reiatsu is an elemental representative of lightning, as it is more like she is lightning itself given shape. As a novice she embodied the raw nature of electricity, always lashing out, always reaching for the earth and today she can be seen as the avatar of that purest form of energy in all its immaculate forms. Her control over lightning has been immortalised in brief retellings of her visits to the Human World, and she has been attributed many names over the generation to reflect this fact. Her domination of lightning perhaps best matches the Chinese deity Lei Gong, though Seia is more likely to be acknowledged as being an incarnation of his wife, Tian Mu. The element itself recognises and accepts her as a being worthy of serving in a sense, and thus she has been gifted with the highest form of control over all lightning in the world. It obeys her in all of its forms, whether that be occurring naturally, generated artificially or even conjured by means of magic or ability. Well beyond simply manifesting and controlling her own lightning-aspected Reiatsu, it all conforms to her command allowing her to not only stop electricity-based attacks from her opponents, but outright turn them against them as well. Her opponents could attack her with a Byakurai spell, or a lightning-type Zanpakutō, perhaps even leash a thunderstorm to their will to strike at Seia, but all of these, no matter their origin innately see her as a creature that commands electricity and thus, should she ask it of them, even in a non-verbal form, they will oblige her. Wash over her, break down, or redirect as she wills it. Her control is absolute, and as such, to face and opponent that also wields lightning so predominately is to ensure victory for her as no matter their mastery over the form, Seia will override them. To bathe in lightning in her presence is certain death. Then, as her ability to take from others is so readily apparent, her ability to wield her own is surely something magnificent.
Her passive ability to generate intense electromagnetic interference is well known, as are the powers of her Zanpakutō, what is less heard of is her own mastery over the lightning. She is acknowledged as a master of all four forms of the Zankensoki, but people rarely realise that her skill in each of these arts serve as an outlet for her electrical dominance. Hohō allows her to display her affinity for the sky, whilst moving like a bolt of lightning. Her strikes in Zanjutsu are abrupt and fast like a flashing strike from the Heavens. Hakuda is a pulverizing blast that engulfs and topples whatever might get in the way, and Kidō is a titanic storm unleashed through her palms. Each form and style is molded to best represent her nature, rather than being required to show off her talents. She can easily manifest electricity from the air as she pleases, but can bring about incredible feats that could put many a Kidō master to shame with her control over such a low level spell as Tsuzuri Raiden. As she can will lightning to stop, she can also cause it form. On a day where the conditions for a storm would be least likely, she can force them to come forth, exploding on to the scene simply because she asked for it. With the vast quantities of her Reiryoku can create these things as needed, she may even create life if it is something inundated with the power of lightning such as the Raijū. Be it from Heaven or Earth, she can manifest lightning just about anywhere and do with it as she pleases. It need not be a bolt of lightning when it could be a dragon or a tiger. The destructive forces that she has at her control cannot be underestimated, for to take to the field against Seia is to bring all the lightning of the world down upon you. She need not even strike with lightning in its purest state as those objects with great affinity for it also do her bidding. The rolling thunder and the billowing clouds are the most common suspects, but even heat and flame can sometimes make the call, and some rumour that the wind itself will heed her summons.
  • Yoroi Tensei (鎧電静, Electrostatic Armour): Not unlike an Arrancar with their Hierro, Seia's Reiatsu has encased itself around her body to form a shell of protective energy, purely of its own accord. An innate defense that takes no effort on her part and wielding her furious mastery over the lightning it acts as a powerful form of reactive armour. As lightning is something poorly honed for defensive purposes, naturally, the armour does not offer true damage negation as the Reiatsu of Kenpachi Zaraki does but instead gives her a great deal of mitigation. It can negate attacks if they are primarily electrical in nature or utilised by someone far below Seia's level, but its primary use is to act as a buffer, absorbing the brunt of a blow and only allowing a small amount of it to reach her where her Reiryoku-enhanced physique can deal with the rest. It can be likened to a fence of wires that impede the momentum of a strike, forcing much of its energy to be wasted on trying to bypass them before they can truly land a blow against her. As it is a reactive armour, its true strength is not in its defensive capabilities, but in how it responds to an attack. Every physical attack made against her triggers a response in the form of a powerful blast of electrical energy that ripples through whatever manages to make contact with the armour. The response is measured, meaning that it always counters with an equal force to what struck at Seia. Thus, it could very well produce a tiny spark with the effects of a light static shock or it could very well incinerate the entirety of ones nervous system depending on the force behind their own attack. Her power scales to a point where its limit is almost pointless, and as such, it is often treated as having the ability to scale infinitely; producing an equal response to any blow that could strike at her no matter how weak or how strong. Should someone manage to strike hard enough they could very well see repercussions that are immediately fatal as such is the risk one takes when they tangle with lightning. This armour is typically invisible, as is the electrical charges it generates in response to an attack, making it difficult to tell what has happened. If Seia is pressed to unleash the full potency of her Reiatsu in combat, the shell can be made visible, in which it takes shape as a silhouette of Seia's own Bankai.
The armour need not be purely reactionary in nature, however. All Shinigami possess a pair of "vents" situated in their wrists that are one of a few central points for emitting Reiatsu, guaranteeing a larger quantity of energy from that point than elsewhere. Taking advantage of this, Seia is able to flood the armour situated around her wrists to expel powerful bolts of lightning for use in direct combat. This greatly augments her physical blows, increasing the damage she can do to someone, and the negative consequences they face should her hits connect, but it also serves to increase her effective range even when fighting unarmed. The bolts generated are typically needle-like bolts that flash out forward and strike whatever happens to be in front of Seia within a five metre radius. She has complete control over this, however, and can increase that range as she sees fit. However, in doing so, she must also bestow it more power and thus slow down her strikes in the process, as the electricity unleashed grows exponentially outside that minimum range point. At around one hundred metres, she would be unleashing blasts that dwarf Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō in size and power but would have to telegraph her strike so clearly that only someone who had been restrained has any realistic chance of suffering the attack. Nonetheless it is a powerful offensive maneuver that is difficult to gauge, especially in combat between small arms as she can quickly debilitate anyone who takes her on unprepared as their nerves and synapses find themselves shutting down blow after blow. This makes her an incredible threat for most Hakuda combatants as even those who gain a great deal of self-control would find themselves in incredible danger should their nervous system stop responding. Given its conductivity, a Zanpakutō is not an ideal match either, given the armour's ability to withstand an attack enough for Seia to clash with them. It is a weapon that bypasses natural defenses, allowing Seia to strike at vital organs and cause irregularities, or damage them, without bothering with aiming for the surface.
  • Fukade Raiden (深手雷電, Grevious Wounds of Thunder and Lightning): When inflicting a deep wound on her opponent, such as those expected from the bite of her sword, Seia is capable of injecting her Reiatsu into the injuries of her opponent. Akin to the wound Ulquiorra Cifer dealt Ichigo Kurosaki, these injections create an intense disruption in the flow of energy within the body of her victims. This disruption can be seen as a blockage, that interferes with ones ability to mold Reiryoku or express their Reiatsu, preventing them from doing so until Seia's energy is expelled from their injuries. The disruption is powerful enough that it can prevent most beings from activating powers that would transform them or releasing weapons such as the Zanpakutō wielded by Shinigami or Arrancar. As well, it disrupts the molding of spells or abilities cast by the user such that they are rendered unable to wield many forms of magic or abilities such as Cero as they would simply collapse, and in worse cases, outright backfire. The sheer potency of Seia's spiritual energy makes her energy incredibly difficult to expel without outside help and only the strongest of spiritual beings can do so with any kind of ease. Her attempts to inject her Reiatsu can be resisted, however, and this presents the best means of defense against the technique. For those that suffer the effects, the wound does not weaken or degrade even when only a scrap remains, thus requiring full expulsion in order to be free of its detrimental effects. Even outside abilities cast be someone else are rendered weaker than normal for the victim as Seia's energy intercepts the positive force and strikes at it, as a result ability enhancing effects, healing, and forms of protection are hampered. Should Seia overload a person with her Reiatsu she can treat them as if they were a bomb made out of lightning which would allow her to eviscerate her enemies from the inside out, as well as striking at their allies. Likewise, she may use a denser stream of energy to wrest control of a person's body from them, acting like a virus she can attack a person's Reiatsu with her own or strike the neural pathways to take control of someone both spiritually and physically. Primarily, the purpose of such a skill is to force someone to face Seia in melee combat where she has a marked advantage due to her innate defenses.
    Kumogata
  • Kumogata (雲形, Cloud-Shaped): The clouds are divinely connected to the lightning, and like so many deities immortalised in the myriad mythologies of the world, Seia is able to use her absolute control over the element to bring even the clouds forth to do her bidding. The most basic expression of this would be calling upon a storm, gathering entire cloud formations together whether naturally or forced into being so that she can wield the powers of a storm without draining her own reserves, but she is capable of so much more than just bringing the clouds forth. As she can bend and transform electricity, so too can she wield the clouds in the same way. Seia is said to be a woman of infinite reach, for she can casually form vaporous limbs out of the clouds so that she can attack someone with her fists even if they were thousands of miles away. The clouds act like an extension of her being in this state, embodying her tremendous physical power even though a cloud would be expected to be far less threatening. She can weave the clouds as if they were serpentine dragons, soaring through the air to strike or defend her but the most ostentatious of these feats is the inclination she had towards donning the clouds. When someone manages to prove a threat to Seia, her typical reaction is to leap headlong into the atmosphere and bathe in the storms she has amassed upon the battlefield. Swirling them around herself she transforms the storm into a gargantuan raiment for her to wear. She gazes down upon the battlefield within the guise of a titan, a monolithic structure composed entirely of clouds and wrapped up in lightning. She can form gigantic fists with strength enough to topple mountains and swirl the winds beneath her to create hurricanes. As she becomes steeped in her own element, Seia's lightning-based powers also experience a sharp increase in strength, bringing forth feats said to be beyond even the divine in nature.
  • Kongōjū (金剛獣, Thunderbolt Beast):
  • Raihō (雷咆, Lightning Roarer): Thunder is the eternal partner of lightning, ever heralding the great golden bolts with a tremor that ripples through the skies. It stands to reason then, with control so absolute that Seia can dominate even the clouds, that she would be able to manipulate this ephemeral force as well. Thunder naturally rises to signal her attacks every time they are used, which bestows upon her a form of grandiosity but effectively makes stealth impossible unless she decides to forcefully quell it; given her straightforward nature it is rare that this would ever be the case. The thunder can be brought to bear without its radiant counterpart, often transformed into screeching shockwaves fit to rattle bones and burst eardrums in its roar. This, is however, tantamount to little more than throwing a tantrum. For Seia, thunder is actually a form of language, the power that flows through her voice. A dialect indiscernible to anyone who is not themselves versed in it, it gives Seia an incredible means of off-battle support as the most common beings able to interpret and understand the language of the thunder are the creatures born from her. This means that she can send messages nearly anywhere in the worlds without fear of them being intercepted. She can likewise use her thundering-voice to impart curses upon her opponents. They are almost always directly linked to electrical-based effects, such as bestowing an electric charge (either positive or negative) upon someone. This gives Seia an incredible advantage in combat, as though these effects act like curses, and can be removed as such, her opponents would have a hard time becoming aware of this fact due to the unique nature of using thunder as a form of dialect. As most people cannot understand it, they cannot immediately react to it in a way beneficial to themselves.

Enhanced Strength & Superhuman Reflexes: As a spiritual being Seia is naturally stronger than she was as a Human, something that is only further bolstered by her status as a Shinigami and the enormous spiritual energy she has at her command. She would frequently arm wrestle with the Gatekeeper Karāge, overpowering and casting the gigantic being aside in their matches. With a single punch she could smash the mask of an Adjuchas-class Hollow and could toss Kenpachi Amakyō several miles into the air against the force of a powerful tornado. With a single kick she could easily tear through solid stone, and use that to propel herself across walls and buildings by rapidly creating footholds with her strength. Though she is incredibly strong, her truest feat lies in her honed reflexes. She is capable of reacting to almost anything with a lightning quickness that goes far beyond normal means, some have even guessed that it is a result of her elemental ties to electricity that she is capable of reacting so fast.

Immense Endurance: For Shinigami spiritual energy is their life force, and those with particularly large amounts can use it to ignore injuries. Though a spiritual body is much stronger than a Human one, it is not invulnerable, and by using their Reiryoku as a stand-in, they can continue to fight even after sustaining grievous and fatal wounds. Seia is particularly good at this, having proven capable of withstanding most of her body being burned and one side of it being destroyed, albeit temporarily.

Keen Intellect: Straightforward in nature though she may be, this does not mark Seia as unintelligent. Seeking out the simplest path is simply her preference but she is no slouch in the field of intellect. She is skilled at reading her opponents moves in order to counteract them and is more than capable of concocting unorthodox plans for a battle. Underneath her lazy exterior is a woman with a great deal of knowledge of military affairs and is possibly one of the keenest minds on how Hueco Mundo operates, by virtue of being among the few non-Hollows to spend any significant amount of time there.

Shinigami Powers & Abilities

Master Swordsman: Having been taught by Kenpachi Amakyō, and received some degree of training from Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto and Satō Shingen, as well as being a Balancer and one of the original Shinigami Captains, Seia has been at the forefront of a great deal of conflict which has given her ample opportunity in order to learn and hone her skills in battle. She is greatly skilled in the art of several swordsmanship schools and has proven capable of wielding a variety of sword types, be they jian, longswords, or something as outlandish as her over sized Zanpakutō. She relies primarily on her own professed style of Zanjutsu known as Sayūryū (左右流, Left and Right School) which is an incorporation of the techniques and practices of other martial styles in conjunction with the manner in which Seia prefers to conduct herself in combat. That is her weapon is wielded exclusively by her left hand and all attacks come from that side while her right hand is relegated to providing support, grappling an opponent with her arm or knocking them away. Her style relies primarily on speed, delivering a great number of attacks at once, or simply delivering a single strike that leaves very little time for her opponent to react. The speed with which she fights is backed up by a great degree of physical power, which also presents a drawback in that a single mistake can cause her to fumble. However, her right hand is actually her dominant, and reserved for those scenarios that she considers "serious", when faced with an opponent that poses a greater threat to those around her or can clearly match Seia blow for blow. Though seemingly a minor thing, the mere switching of sword arm is an observably dramatic change as her blows become incredibly more powerful as does the speed with which her attacks are unleashed all the while becoming more balanced such that the risks of her faltering with her right hand are minimal to none. The particulars of her style rely on a blend of Iaido, Taijijian and Kendo as well as those skills unique to Zanjutsu.

Hakuda Expert: Given her age, it is no surprise that Seia is also skilled in the field of hand-to-hand combat. She professes that she has never studied a particular style, and fights by instinct more than anything, but it is clear that even without formal training the Thirteenth Captain has been shaped by her experiences. She is skilled and deceptively powerful, relying on Hakuda primarily as a form of support in order to deflect and cast off her opponents attacks. She has been successful in redirecting the unarmed attacks of her enemies, as well as swords and the rare Kidō spell by learning to change the flow of those attacks with her own bare hands.

Shunpo Expert: Seia is a highly skilled practitioner in the art of Hohō, possessing great speed and seemingly unnatural balance as a result of training in its teachings. She is skilled enough to use Shunpo, though applies it differently from more common means. The average Shinigami focuses Reiryoku below them in order to carry them great distances in a matter of steps, Seia does not so much flow with it as she attacks it. Each step for her is a powerful sonic explosion, and so she does not appear to step, instead she leaps. This creates an unorthodox style of movement that creates the illusion that Seia is constantly pouncing across the battlefield to strike at her prey, and due to the manner in which she moves she can seemingly leap out from anywhere to deliver an attack. However, as a result of the force, it is difficult for Seia herself to gauge how far she will move and often times results in extra wasted movements as a result of being forced to take an alternative route to her target.

Kidō Expert: Seia was remarkably bad at Kidō during her original tenure as Captain of the Thirteenth Division, such that it was a popular negative remark to be made against her when arguing with her fellow Captains. Using any spell in even the single digit range was difficult for her and anything above that was, by and large, impossible. Excluding the odd exception, most spells simply exploded in her face, a result of her overwhelming spiritual power and a difficulty with focusing it in proper quantities. In the intervening thousand years, she has come to into her own in the art of spellcrafting. She has become capable enough to be able to utilize spells as high as Bakudō #75 without incantation and with no notable drain on her limited physical stamina, though she has trouble using spells above that point without their incantations, even with it, they appear to deeply drain her of energy. She has a great deal of skill in the spells that she has learned, weaving them together with surprising ease and power. Seia is intensely skilled in the use of lightning-based Kidō for several reasons, not the least of which are her considerable elemental affinity for them. As she focuses all of her spiritual energy on that facet, the manipulation of electrical energy has become incredibly easier for her, particularly in the realm of Kidō as it serves as a direct outlet for her power. It is further bolstered by the fact that Seia never truly conjures these spells on her own, it is always done using her Zanpakutō as a focus, as such, one should consider each spell she wields to have been done by two beings with all the expected benefits in speed, range, power and focus. Each spell is empowered several magnitudes and their forms become far more malleable in her hands than that of the typical Kidō practitioner. While Byakurai is normally a beam of concentrated lightning, she can transform it into a powerful maelstrom to pierce multiple targets or skewer a single unlucky individual without losing any of the power of casting one singular Byakurai spell.

  • Akukyōkun (空教訓, Empty Lessons): The greatest lesson that Hueco Mundo could impart is that of its emptiness. The world and its inhabitants both embody that singular concept. Understanding this and deriving a means with which to use it to improve herself, Seia developed a means to create an emptiness of the self. By purging her body of impurities and converting all of her Reiryoku so that it aligns with her affinity for the lightning Seia is able to create a much better flow for the Reiryoku running through her body. She becomes a conduit of lightning Reiryoku and Reiatsu, greatly enhancing the speed with which she may utilize Kidō and the power that she may impart with each spell, she discards the idea of casting a spell with preset motions and instead constructs them using her entire body. However, as any form of "neutral" Reiryoku is dispelled or converted Seia greatly depletes her ability to make use of spells that are not electricity-based.
Zanpakutō

Rairyōken (雷猟犬, Lightning Hound) is a grossly oversized tachi that stands at 172½ inches long, making it almost three times as long as its wielder is tall. It takes the typical shape expected of a tachi with an obvious curvature due to its advanced length and width. It has a ringed tsuba that pushes inward on each of its corners giving it a shape resembling a clover. The hilt is a creamy colour with a simple steel pommel and an attach tassel made out of brown thread with two metal points hanging from its end. The sheath is black and emblazoned with the imagery of a wolf in various poses across its width. Due to the size of her Zanpakutō, Seia cannot carry it as other Shinigami would and instead keeps it held in her hand, both as a means of always being prepared and as a way to resolve her habitual need to fidget with something. Rairyōken is the strongest lightning-type Zanpakutō in Soul Society, and does not need the presence of natural lightning in order to facilitate its abilities, instead it is powered purely by Seia's Reiryoku and force of will.

  • Shikai: Rairyōken's release command is "Land and Sky Are But Victims Upon This Relentless Heaven" (陸空餌食無慈悲天, kūriku ejiki mujihiten). The release of her Zanpakutō is marked by a massive outburst of electrified Reiatsu spilling out from Seia and pouring into the surrounding environment, an effect which is capable of harming and even outright killing those caught up in its wake. Its form changes to that of a double-edged longsword whilst also resembling an executioner's sword. The hilt becomes rounded and golden and the image of a large wolf with wings is emblazoned upon it, it has a faceted pommel and a three-pointed cross emerging from the bottom. The quillons are a jagged affair, ending in points whilst a purple diamond rests at the centre. It has a large rain guard with a ribbed design to it that terminates as a spike running into the blade. There also six small purple jewels close to the centre. The blade is a long clear white, with golden marking emblazoned close to the rain guard. The edges are extremely sharp but the sword has no point, instead it ends on a curve with three holes arranged in a triangle at the tip. Unlike some other Zanpakutō, it retains its sheath, though it shrinks to conform to the new size of the Shikai and straightens out to match the differing type of sword.
Shikai Special Ability: Rairyōken gives Seia the ability to generate and manipulate lightning, the appearance of which has been referred to as Terasa Inazuma (照らさ稲妻, Sunlit Lightning) following the fusion between her Zanpakutō and the remnants of her Jiūkǔndao. Her Zanpakutō is constantly coated in an electrical charge which nips and lashes at opponents as she attacks, and can be actively bolstered by her Reiryoku giving her much greater range with her attacks than would be immediately obvious. The bolts of electricity emitted by her blade are compressed and extremely dense with spiritual energy, such that they brim with heat capable of producing serious burns even when her attacks deal only a glancing blow. The power of her Zanpakutō is such that it can be used to generate and amass lightning at will, regardless of the current conditions of the surrounding environment. As well, it can force the emission of natural lightning under its command, to the extent of doing so even when a natural lightning strike would be seen as impossible. The power Seia releases in her Shikai is great enough that she is capable of this feat even in the Human World where her powers would be restricted by the Gentei Reiin (限定霊印, Soul-Limiting Symbol).
  • Denka Sei (静電荷, Static Charge): Rairyōken is bathed in a constant electrical charge, visible as sparks running across its form every few seconds. Each time Seia delivers a successful strike to an opponent, the charge is transfered to her target where it lingers, though dealing no harm. Each charge that is attached to her target causes the holes on the edge of her Zanpakutō to light up until all three are lit. Once they are, she is able to summon lightning from the Heavens in order to strike at her victim. The strength of these lightning bolts is dependent on the amount of charges she has attached to a specific target, three is only the minimum in order for her to use the ability. Whenever a bolt is fired, the charges are "reset" and Seia must strike more times in order to accumulate the next one.
  • Chiengata Han'nō (遅延型反応, Delayed Reaction): While the abilities of most Zanpakutō end in their entirety when that particular Zanpakutō returns to its sealed state, Rairyōken is unique in that the built up static charges of Denka Sei remain attached to a target regardless of the state Seia's Zanpakutō is in. This allows her to activate a secondary ability causing those charges to exponentially increase in power to deliver a powerful burst of electrical bolts to an unsuspecting victim.
  • Bin'nairai (瓶内雷, Lightning in a Bottle): Seia sheathes her Zanpakutō and begins bathing it in electrical energy with a unique potency, it fills up her sheath as if it was made of liquid, almost literally bathing her Shikai in electricity. It is an advanced concentration of her own Reiryoku, similar to the techniques used by Quincy in order to make their Gintō. It takes a massive degree of concentration and cannot be interrupted once started or the construction of the liquid lightning (液体雷, Ekitai Rai) will collapse, resulting in a self-harming explosion. Once prepared, Seia lashes out with a single slash reminiscent of Iaido techniques.
  • Bankai: Hasshōdō Rairyōken (八正道雷猟犬, Lightning Hound of the Noble Eightfold Path): Seia takes her Zanpakutō into a reverse grip before resting her sword against the length of her arm, her arm outstretched ahead of her and the hilt of the sword pointed outward whilst yellow Reiatsu begins to build up around her, generating an illuminating outline. A massive degree of energy is then released all around her, similar to the release of her Shikai, though covering a much greater radius. A massive bolt of lightning then descends upon Seia, obscuring her from view for the few crucial seconds needed for her Bankai to complete its transformation. Unusually, the changes incurred by her Bankai exclusively effect Seia while her Zanpakutō retains the form it takes in Shikai. Her attire is completely replaced with a suit of armour made up of several white plates with golden outlines. The chestplate is high collared, with a fur lining running across the rim, but wide, exposing her neck, and the plate is also molded to frame her breasts, terminating just above them though any possible cleavage is covered by a black bodyglove that stops just above that, leaving only the area around her collarbones exposed. The chest plate has three lines running vertically and a single horizontal line that runs into an indent in the centre. The chestplate ends with a v-shaped curve and is continued by a secondary plate that stops at her waist, adjoined to a set of cuisses by brown leather straps with visible square buckles, a third strap runs down the front to a piece of armour hanging over her crotch, made up of three angular segments that get sharper as they go down. Her thighs are protected by the aforementioned cuisses which are a simple set of three-ringed segments, her bodyglove is visible in between the spaces of her armour before being hidden again by kneeguards and greaves with a single line running down the front of them both. A pair of simple pauldrons protect her shoulders while the majority of her arms are covered by sleeves that resemble reptilian scales. Her forearms are covered by segmented vambraces that stop over the top of her hand, leaving the rest to be covered by black gloves that leave her fingers exposed.
Bankai Special Ability: The release of Seia's Bankai is an enormous expulsion of her Reiryoku which permeates and suffuses through out her current environment. It has the passive effect of enhancing the electromagnetic fields of objects in a massive radius around her, causing items that regularly wouldn't to become magnetized and generating visible electrical sparks throughout the corresponding area. She claims that her power electrifies the very air, resulting in an extremely dense atmosphere that exudes an ethereal tension, though Alta Reina believes this to be the result of an inflated Reiatsu. Her Bankai is an obvious upgrade in scope over her Shikai, though the benefits it affords her largely revolve around the control she has over the lightning at her command, giving her not only the ability to conjure lightning from the skies and earth, but to completely reshape and remold it for her usage.
  • Hasshōdo — Sotogawa: Chigumo Raiden (八正道 "外側": 千雲雷電, Noble Eightfold Path, Without: A Thousand Clouds of Thunder and Lightning): An ability that is automatically activated upon release. In the sky surrounding Seia, a gargantuan sea of clouds comes into being, covering a 10 kilometre wide radius with her at its epicentre. The clouds are black and ominous, radiating with flows of electrical sparks and the booming sound of thunder. No matter where Seia happens to be, while her Bankai is active, this colossal storm follows her as she is considered the "eye of the storm" (台風の目, taifū no me) and thus always stands at the core of the configuration. This massive storm is able to freely generate extreme amounts of electrical energy that Seia can freely manipulate as she sees fit, serving as the source of much of her attacks in this state. The formation of clouds is assumed to be a representation of Seia's amassed Reiryoku, its sheer scale indicating an incredible depth to her power. Though Seia never confirms the claim, the fact that the storm appears to gradually fade away the more she prolongs the use of her Bankai indicates some truth to it. As its name implies, the storm is made out of a mass of a thousand individual clouds of various shapes and sizes.
  • Hasshōdo — Naibu: Rōjakunichi (八正道 "内部": 狼藉日, Noble Eightfold Path, Within: A Day When Everything is Evil) An ability that is automatically activated upon release. Seia is endowed with what can only be described as a "divine authority" over electrical energy, and as her Bankai awakens all forms of electricity is forcibly torn from its natural place and drawn to her, concentrated within her body as she becomes the sole source and wielder of all possible forms of lightning. It does not matter where Seia happens to be when the effect takes place, as all electricity in the universe is subjugated and consumed by her. With the activation of this effect, abilities reliant on the manipulation, or even the conjuring and creation, of lightning can no longer be used until Seia relinquishes her Bankai. This supposed authority ranks higher than Yuachika Kishitani's Shirakuro which possesses domination over all light, allowing her to continue using, and emitting, lightning in their confrontations. Electric impulses and signals, such as those required to keep a human body functioning, don't appear to fall under the purview of Seia's domination, though why this is, is unknown.
  • Hasshōdo — Mae: Byakurō Taikashiwa (八正道 "前": 鋭牙皺白狼, Noble Eightfold Path, Front: Sharpened Fang of the Wizened White Wolf): By using Hasshōdo Rairyōken as a medium, Seia is able to freely manipulate electricity in any form she so chooses, amassing bolts of lightning and thunder or electrical shocks as would be traditionally expected to creating lashing whips of thunderbolts or spheres and bursts of electrical power drawn out of fantasy. This allows her to fight her opponents with unparalleled fluidity, unleashing any and all manner of attacks as the situation calls for it. In one instance, she might summon a hail of lightning to rain down, concentrated on her sword, using its impetus to deliver an incredibly powerful slash, while in the next she might unleash a thousand slashing-cuts that erupt into powerful electrical explosions. She might call forth a single bolt of colossal might to rend her foes asunder, or a thousand lancing beams from the earth to perforate every angle. The variety at her disposal is near limitless, and Seia describes it as if she were wielding a thousand unique Zanpakutō abilities as a singular technique.
  • Hasshōdo — Hidari: Tenjin Raijin Retsuzen (八正道 "左": 天神雷神裂全, Noble Eightfold Path, Left: God of Sky and God of Thunder Sunder All): Concentrating a large amount of electrical energy into her sword, such that Seia's blade can only really be described as "drowning" in lightning. It pulses with an ethereal glow and the concentration of energy is so vibrant that the blade vibrates violently, looking more like a chainsaw than a sword. With it, Seia is able to unleash an unfathomably powerful slash, capable of severing through anything it touches. Not only slashing through her targets with incredible force, the strike acts like a "charge", passing onto its victim where it voraciously assaults everything within the grasp of the attack. Fiercely eradicating every single atom of an opponent such as to obliterate them outright. Like a virus, the lightning leaps from the blade at the moment of the attack and ripples through its victim, burning through every part of them, even at the molecular level.
  • Hasshōdo — Migi: Seiten Hekireki (八正道 "右": 晴天霹靂, Noble Eightfold Path, Right: Thunderclap From Clear Skies): By concentrating her electrical powers around and through her own body, Seia is able to treat herself like the electrical charges she so freely manipulates with her Bankai. She can emit powerful electrical shocks from her body, protecting herself with lashing bolts of thunder that prevent her enemies from getting close. With a touch of her hand she can burn or paralyze those she makes contact with, she can accelerate herself in order to greatly improve the impetus of her strikes and even convert her body wholesale into lightning itself, warping around her opponent's attempts to hit her, or using it to travel at immense speeds, completely invalidating the need for skills such as Shunpo.
  • Hasshōdo — Kōhō: Rōkuro Tenjōseijō (八正道 "後方": 狼黒纏常性情 , Noble Eightfold Path, Rear: Black Wolf Wrapped in Eternity's Passion): In addition to focusing lightning through her Zanpakutō, Seia can also harness it without it, calling forth lightning bolts upon her opponents to strike them at a distance. The most typical form is a singular bolt, charging down from the heavens to batter whatever Seia sets her sights on, but she can just as easily conjure up any form of lightning she so chooses, splintering a single bolt into forking fangs to trap a target or raining down thousands of bolts simultaneously to perforate them. She can manifest phenomena such as upward lightning, striking out from the ground to take her opponents by surprise and wield the lightning in unnatural forms such as the creation of electric cages or lattices to further ensnare her enemies. Not to mention her control over thunder as well, channeling powerful sonic explosions to follow up her flashy arrays of death. Needless to say, the abilities of the Front and Rear of her Bankai are intrinsically linked, and it isn't entirely clear when either is being used over the other due to their sheer versatility.
  • Hasshōdo — Tenchō: Ajisukitakahikone (八正道 "天頂": 阿遅志貴高日子根, Noble Eightfold Path, Zenith: Excellent Shiki High-Princeling Deity): Seia raises her sword up into the sky, causing the massive thunderstorm of Hasshōdo — Sotogawa: Chigumo Raiden to be pooled together and absorbed into her blade. Once the entire mass of the storm is consumed, the blade cracks, as golden light pours from it before the sword explodes into a radiant bolt of lightning, obscuring Seia entirely in its wake. Emerging from the aftermath, Seia has undergone a transformation beginning with the complete removal of the armour initially granted by her Bankai. Her hair lengthens greatly, running the entire length of her back, fanning outward into spikes. Two tufts stand upward on the top of her head, greatly resembling the perked-up ears of a wolf. A network of golden lines run across the entirety of her visible skin, alluded to be her veins pulsing with electrified power as well her eyes glow a similar golden colour. Summoned forth on either side of her are two gargantuan forearms taking the appearance of her Bankai's gauntlets though the hands are made out of amorphous golden lightning. The right gauntlet holds a massive tachi, exacting in appearance to Rairyōken's sealed state. In this state, Seia attacks by gesturing, and the gauntlets mimic her motions in order to facilitate her actions. Primarily, the right is used to hold the scabbard while the left draws the sword in order to strike, rarely leaving the blade unsheathed for more than a moment. In this state, Seia is described as being lightning itself, a solitary thunderbolt to render all asunder.
  • Hasshōdo — Amesoko: Sueran (八正道 "天底": 末嵐, Noble Eightfold Path, Nadir: Conclusion of the Storm): An attack that can be used while the Hasshōdo — Tenchō: Ajisukitakahikone is activated. Seia describes it as an ability that reflects the incredible power of lightning, but also its sudden and fleeting nature. She draws a vertical line across her forehead as all of her power is accumulated in a singular point, further condensing her already considerably condensed might. A series of markings appear around her eyes and face, as well as a singular mark on her chest that glows brightly. She moves with speed many times faster than that of light in this state, becoming an impossible-to-follow blur, that appears to disintegrate from where she was standing, only to reform at wherever she arrives. A singular stroke is unleashed with all of her strength behind it, such that it will instantly kill any target hit by it. The mark on her chest is considered a representation of her consolidated powers, and managing to hit it will ensure Seia herself is stripped of all of her strength, and in that instant, die. This same effect should occur if she were to miss her fatal strike, as her power is unleashed, splintering and fading away as all lightning ultimately should. Given the speed with which she can move under this state, however, it is exceptionally difficult to actually evade her.

Pet[]

Pablo (パブロ, Paburo) is the soul form of a rooster residing in Soul Society. Originally it was part of a batch meant to be killed and prepared as food by a group of culinary-trained Shinigami until it was stolen by Hein Ueda. Seia was asked to get it back from him and upon doing so unofficially adopted the chicken as a pet.[6] The chicken is named after a character of the same name from a soap that Hein enjoys, called My Roommate Was a Hollow.

Trivia[]

  • Seia's name is made up of the characters 精 (vim and vigor), and, 有 (to exist). Her name can be taken to mean "Vigorous Existence".
  • Her surname "no Rōjinki" (老人木の) is a simple identifier, denoting that she hails from Rōjinki.
  • Seia's alias Omi Tenka can be taken to mean "Tainted Beauty, Descent from Heaven".
  • Her Price Level as assessed by Otoya Kurogane's Dirty Accountant is an impressive 60,000 making her equal in strength to Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto.
  • In Japanese, Seia would use the pronoun ore (俺), an informal word that is primarily used by men, though it used to be used prominently by both genders until the late Edo period, and still is in some dialects. It is typically used to establish a sense of masculinity and emphasizes one's own status when used amongst peers or those of a lesser status. Amongst family or friends it is seen as a sign of familiarity instead.
