The Sōkyoku (双殛, Twinned Punishment) was once used by the Gotei 13 upon Sōkyoku Hill to execute Shinigami that had severely broken the law, but was destroyed by Shunsui Kyōraku and Jūshirō Ukitake into several shards of varying size, which became a much sought after artefact. The weapon later came into the possession of Averian and became his primary weapon.
Overview[]
Following the intervention of Shunsui Kyōraku and Jūshirō Ukitake the Sōkyoku, as a whole weapon, was destroyed using the Shihōin Shield and its parts scattered.[1] Kenji was once known to have possessed both the primary haft and blade, but admitted they where scattered during the Collapse. The Kikkashō actively sought both the primary parts of the weapon and the smaller shards in the aftermath of the Collapse and eventually succeeded in bringing them together once again. Averian became the owner of the restored halberd with the help of The Outsider, who fashioned it into a weapon for Averian's use. This need was necessitated by Kusaka. In the immediate aftermath of the Collapse Kusaka, filled with rage and overcome with grief, fought a titanic battle against Averian within the Forest of Menos, resulting in the destruction of the latter location. This battle also served to handicap Averian, whose injuries where so severe he was forced to discard his Resurrección. This meant that he could never return to his normal form again.[2]

- The shards of the Sōkyoku existed as a plot device in Bleach: Shattered Blade, and boosted the spiritual power of anyone holding even one shard.
