The Royal Guard (王属特務, Ōzokutokumu), also known as the Zero Division (無番隊, Mubantai), are the elite Shinigami charged with the protection of the Soul King.
Overview[]
The Royal Guard consists of the most powerful Shinigami Captains recruited from Gotei 13. Their primary task is to protect the Soul King and the Royal Family. Each of the members is chosen on the basis of achieving unparalleled skill in one of the fundamental ways of Shinigami combat: Zankensoki and Zanpakutō usage. Two exceptions to this case would be Yokota's case, grand architecture. And Elijah, who allows time to flow through Soul Society.
Organization[]
At any given time, the Zero Division consists of five former Captains of Gotei 13. Should a place become vacant, another Shinigami shall be chosen to fill the ranks. Each Royal Guardsman bears the title of a Divine General. Elijah Burō is the current commanding officer of the Royal Guard.
In addition to protecting the Spirit King and the Royal Family, the Royal Guard also intervenes should Soul Society ever be in danger of perishing.

Reasons for Promotions[]
- Elijah: Remains in the palace 24/7, using his power and Zanpakutō to allow the flow of time. Fragments of his soul is scattered between timelines.
- Yokota: Most notably created the Senkaimon.
- Kiko: Inventor of Shunpō
- Okani: Inventor of Kidō, one of the four modes of Shinigami combat. She is most known for creating the first healing Kidō.
- Sebastian: Was the first known Shinigami to ever possess a Zanpakutō, and founder of the Ōnmitsukidō.
