The Royal Guard (王属特務, Ōzokutokumu), also known as the Zero Division (零番隊, Zerobantai), is an organization tasked with the sole purpose of protecting the Soul King. They serve as the highest authority for Shinigami, standing above that of the Gotei 13, though they are known to answer to the Four Noble Houses. Above all else, they work to maintain the role of the Soul King and its continued existence as the lynchpin of Soul Society; regardless of the means necessary to accomplish that.
