The Reikai World War (霊界次世界大戦, Reikai Taisen; lit., "Spiritual World War") was a massive conflict that took place between the first incarnation of the Vandenreich and the fledgling Gotei 13. It was the first military conflict in the Gotei 13's long history.
Prelude[]
The Shinigami and Quincy parlay.
As the number of Quincy continued to grow, the newly formed Gotei 13 began to notice that the shift in the balance of the souls was tipping as more Quincy were destroying Hollow souls entirely. In a move to advert crisis, the Shinigami of the 10th Division were sent to the Human World to negotiate a deal with the Quincy to end the mass killings. Leading the negotiations for the Quincy was the head of the 3rd Jagdarmee, Franz Benttino. Likewise, leading the negotiations for Soul Society was 10th Division Captain, Raian Getsueikirite. However, the Quincy never intended to negotiate. Acting on orders from their king, Yhwach, Franz attempted to attack Raian during the negotiations, leading to a full scale battle; the first of the war.
