Muto (無人, "Nobody") is a mysterious Shikonjin, and an envoy of the Archon.

Appearance[]

Muto

Muto in their furisode.

Muto is a petite young adult person of no clear ethnicity, androgynous in appearance. They have got unusually pale skin, a heart-shaped face, and a perky nose. Moreover, they have got a small beauty mark on their left cheek, close to the corner of their thin colourless lips. Their straight jet black hair with prominent ash grey highlights is cut asymmetrically, trimmed very short on the left side while the rest is medium-length and loose, swept to the right, partially obscuring that part of the face. Well-groomed, Muto's eyebrows are soft-angled and fairly thin. Their slightly slanted eyes are of cerise colour.

Normally, they wear an elegant onyx furisode adorned with ghost white flower motifs, and a rose pink sash. In addition, they wear ordinary white tabi and black-thonged zōri. When they act on behalf of the First Sky they wear a white rose kanzashi to conceal their Hollow mask, which appears as a small curved horn that emerges from within their hair.

Conversely, their combat uniform of dark purple colour resembles the executive attire of Onmitsukidō to a surprising extent. Form-fitting, it is composed of a backless and sleeveless kosode, arm warmers, obi, hakama, and jika-tabi. The uniform is designed to be light, as well as comfortable and unobtrusive during high-speed manoeuvres.

Personality[]

Sombre. That is perhaps the best term a perceptive person would use to describe Muto. In spite of their amiability, the air of regal elegance they project, their impeccably good manners, and placid, sweet disposition. Muto is a gentle person, always calm, soft-spoken. Considerate, willing to listen and discuss, to understand. Frequently pensive, to the point of being absent-minded. However, that thoughtfulness is contrasted with their unsettlingly piercing stare, so intense as if to gaze into the very mind and soul of whoever occupies Muto's attention. Maybe even past them, as they behold some far-reaching goal. For Muto is a proponent of peace... if not really a full-fledged pacifist. Virtually imperturbable both during a leisurely conversation, and in the midst of heated battle, they strive to render the Soul Society a true paradise – gently, swiftly, painlessly, if possible.

For they are kind, tender, fragile like a flower, but at the same time steadfast, purposeful, and merciless. They strive to create a world of unity, free of prejudice and persecution, devoid of inequality and factional strife. In doing so they do not judge based on wealth or status; rather, they establish the worth of people based primarily on who they are as individuals, examine their views, their disposition, and how they act. Those who are warm-hearted, generous, benevolent, even if flawed, deserve to live in a world of tranquility. Conversely, those who are belligerent, selfish, malicious, even if influential, are deemed unworthy, and all they deserve is a swift death. Muto does not derive pleasure from violence, however, they are unyielding in their mission. So that they convince, recruit, but slaughter as well, painfully aware of the steep price to pay for a perfect world. Sombre.

Powers and Abilities[]

Zankensōki Skills

Master Swordsman: Somewhat surprisingly, Muto is a highly competent sword-fighter. The level of skill they display is easily comparable to that generally expected of a Gotei 13 Captain. Their fighting style is remarkably flexible and efficient. For the most part, Muto depends upon the restrained ketsugidō. Focussed and composed, they allow the enemy to expend excess energy in a futile attempt to pierce through, or circumvent their defences, the short but swift blade of their Zanpakutō always there to block or parry. Nevertheless, Muto is not completely passive. Far from it. On the whole, their fighting style proves to be surprisingly complex, and the influence of the misleading azamukidō is prominent. Their ostensibly diminutive figure, meek personality, and a defensive approach to combat lead the opponent into a false sense of superiority, only for Muto to exploit their growing confidence with an abrupt counter strike[1]. After a protracted period of passivity, feints and tricks precede masterfully executed retaliation. Adamant in their philosophy, Muto slowly but surely dismantles the enemy offence, a cut a time. Seeps into the cracks of the opponent's defence, physical and ideological alike, to overcome them; inevitably.

Hakuda Practitioner: In spite of their petite figure, Muto is also a fairly proficient martial artist. Owing to a solid understanding of the basic principles, and a set of well-trained moves, they can readily supplement their other skills. Whilst they prefer to engage in long-range combat, they are thus not helpless even when fought up close and unarmed.

Natural Abilities

Enhanced Strength: In spite of their diminutive frame, and toned yet hardly impressive muscles, Muto boasts physical strength substantially greater than that of an average Shinigami. They are capable of cracking walls, demolishing small buildings, and uprooting trees with little to no effort. Albeit they seldom use that strength for the purpose of direct offence, it is a highly useful ability that allows them to keep up with the fitter enemies they might encounter in their dangerous line of duty.

Enhanced Durability: More than that, they are also quite resistant to damage. Far from invincible, they are nonetheless capable of withstanding several blows from opponents of a comparable level whilst incurring only low to moderate damage, even on direct hits[2]. Still, that is not their main and most reliable means of defence.

Enhanced Endurance: As their body is of higher quality than that of even a trained Shinigami in general, Muto can perform at high capacity for relatively long periods of time as well. Combined with their efficient and composed approach to battle, they can continue to fight for a remarkable amount of time.

Enhanced Agility: Muto is possessed of outstanding nimbleness. This, in conjunction with their expert skill in their distinct high-speed movement technique renders them a very mobile and elusive fighter. In addition, they promptly react to abrupt attacks, and can successfully avoid even point-blank strikes owing to their extraordinary acuteness. To attempt to catch them is like to chase after a small bird; nigh-impossible[2].

Highly Perceptive Combatant: To survive as a hybrid possessed of Quincy and Hollow traits in the home realm of the professional slayers of the latter is no easy task. One that requires Muto to be focussed, alert, and observant at all times. Slight changes in face expressions, tone, choice of words, or intent carried by spiritual pressure, a suspiciously persistent follower, a barely audible sound. Little can escape their notice. Whether they hold a conversation or find themself engaged in battle, they remain a very discerning person[3].

High Intellect: Furthermore, they are insightful and quick-thinking. Possessed of the ability to readily discern the mood and motives of people based on the subtlest of hints, Muto is a highly skilled manipulator as well. They calmly discourage their opponents from fighting, plant the seed of doubt, confuse, and overwhelm them with ingenious tactics and counter-tactics[2]. Additionally, they boast the ability to quite easily comprehend complex concepts and solve difficult issues.

Accelerated Growth Rate: One of the most unsettling things about Muto is not the amount of power they boast at the moment, but their ability to rapidly improve even further than that. Both observation and direct confrontation serve to fuel their constant growth, engagement after engagement. They learn various techniques, tactics, obtain experience, all the while their chimeric body is provided the stimuli to develop. Despite the fact that Muto already wields the power to rival a Captain of the Gotei 13, it seems they are far from realising their full potential yet; steadily progressing, though.

Great Spiritual Power: As expected of an entity who transcends any common race of spiritual beings, Muto is a powerful individual. At present, they possess a very large amount of spiritual energy. In fact, ample enough to easily qualify for the designation of a Captain-class combatant. When visible, their spiritual pressure appears as a faint, undulating aura of royal purple colour. Notably, it boasts a soothing, calming effect on people exposed to its emanations. Furthermore, in spite of its chimeric composition, whoever senses it seems to identify Muto's signature as one belonging to their own race – Hollow, Shinigami, Quincy – whichever one they belong to; a peculiar trait, or perhaps something deliberate.

  • Masterful Reiatsu Control: To avoid recognition and prejudice from the Central 46, as well as the whole military at their disposal, Muto has to be sly. In order to be able to act, and interact, they have been taught the ability to suppress, conceal, and alter their spiritual pressure[3]. Their mastery in this area is obvious, for they have been able to roam the Rukongai and even Seireitei undetected for years, a mere traveller hiding a dark secret. They are possessed of exceptional finesse, which extends to the usage of their Zanpakutō as well.
Hybrid Powers

Heilig Bogen (ハイリッヒ・ボーグン, hairihhi bōgun; German for "Holy Bow"): Muto manifests the spirit weapon with the aid of a golden eight-pointed star attached to a bracelet they habitually conceal. Their short bow, composed of highly condensed medium purple Reishi, boasts gently curved limbs adorned with what seems to be plumes. Frequently, they wield it one-handed in tandem with their Zanpakutō rather than in lieu of it, so that they can fight efficiently in both melee and at range.

  • Bala-infused Heilig Pfeil: Muto infuses their condensed spiritual energy with ambient spirit particles, then launches it in the form of an arrow-shaped energy projectile. The technique combines the inherent speed and concussive force of Bala with the form and thus, the piercing capacity of a Heilig Pfeil. Muto is able to blow chunks out of hardened flesh and various forms of defence with each direct hit. Moreover, they can control the trajectory of individual projectiles to an extent[2]. This, in turn, allows them to adjust for enemy movement, as well as render the attacks less predictable.
    • Klavier (クラヴィーア, kuravīa; German for "Piano"): Muto launches a rapid-fire salvo to either overwhelm a single opponent with a multitude of consecutive blasts, or to deal with a small group of enemies in one fell swoop[1].
    • Licht Regen (リヒト・レーゲン, rihito rēgen; German for "Light Rain"): The far more powerful variant of the technique. After a short period of collecting an appropriate amount of energy, Muto unleashes a massive barrage of countless projectiles sustained over a period of a few seconds. Their combined destructive potential is quite impressive.
  • Cero-infused Heilig Pfeil: Quality over quantity: Muto shoots a relatively thin beam with an arrow-shaped tip which can then follow their enemy for a time. Upon impact, it first attempts to pierce any potential means of defence present on its way, and only then detonates in a large explosion.

Bala (バラ, bara, Spanish for "Bullet"): This basic technique is used as a means of ranged offence. Muto condenses spiritual energy around one of their hands, then launches it in the form of an energy projectile by propelling it with a rapid motion of the arm. The ensuing blast, while not powerful, is very swift and abrupt. This allows Muto to strike the opponent unexpectedly, giving them scarcely any time to block or dodge. Whilst Muto typically depends on their Heilig Bogen for the purpose of ranged combat, Bala remains a useful move under certain circumstances, such as to deliver a quick attack when ostensibly unarmed.

Cero (セロ, sero, Spanish for "Zero"): Much more potent, beam variant of the Bala blast, and the signature technique of evolved Hollows. Muto rarely resorts to its use as they generally tend to avoid violent confrontation. Nonetheless, should the need arise, they can launch a potent, wide arc of highly condensed spiritual energy with a wave of their hand. The ensuant Cero is a very dangerous mid-range technique, albeit it loses effectiveness proportionately with increasing distance.

Hierro (イエロ, iero, Spanish for "Iron"): The spiritual pressure of an Arrancar is substantially denser than that of an average Soul, so much so that it acts as an additional layer of defence. Muto boasts this trait as well. Even though their Hierro is average for a spiritual being of their calibre, it does passively impede oncoming enemy strikes to a significant extent at all times. This is undoubtedly a boon to their generally defensive fighting style.

Enhanced Pesquisa (ペスキサ, pesukisa, Spanish for "Inquiry"): Muto sends an impulse through their spiritual pressure, which acts as a radar of sorts. Not only it increases their spatial awareness, but also provides valuable feedback should it encounter any spiritual entities on its way. The returning impulses help Muto determine the approximate power level and location of whoever might be in their vicinity. In spite of their seeming absent-mindedness, they are very observant indeed, and perfectly capable of tracking numerous opponents and their attacks at the same time owing to this additional sense[1].

Descorrer (デスコレール, desukorēru, Spanish for "Drawing Opening"): This technique allows Muto to safely travel between the Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, as well as the Material World. The portal is easy to open, and the interdimensional pathway stable.

Shinsoku Expert (神速, "Godspeed"): Rather than acquire proficiency in one of the standard high-speed movement methods practised by Shinigami or Quincies, Muto relies upon their natural ability to perform a technique which seems to seamlessly combine aspects of them all: Shinsoku[4]. Their skill is considerable; they display speed, and overall agility, which rivals if not surpasses that of a Captain of the Gotei 13. Furthermore, Shinsoku does indeed seem to incorporate traits of several techniques: the graceful efficiency of Shunpo, alarming abruptness of Sonído, as well as the incredible smoothness of Hirenkyaku. This essentially allows them to move fluently in a way reminiscent of ice skating[1]. Notably, the distinct sound that usually accompanies the employment of such techniques is noticeably muted in Muto's case, akin to a puff of wind, allowing them to manoeuvre in an even less conspicuous manner than a nimble Arrancar.

  • Senmyaku (閃脈, "Flash Pulse"): Similarly to Fullbringers, Muto can metaphorically pull on the souls of objects in their vicinity, and even the environment itself, in order to propel themself, or amplify their current manoeuvre with an abrupt burst of significantly heightened speed[2]. The technique produces purple rings of light similar to the phenomenon called "Bringer Light".
  • Zankō (残光, "Afterglow"): Muto sheds a minuscule portion of their spiritual energy in order to form a tangible simulacrum of their body. Fleeting, it may nonetheless prove a crucial distraction or feint during an intense battle[2]. Especially considering that it can deceive both the mundane senses, as well as the spiritual one.

Reishi Absorption & Manipulation: All spiritually powerful beings utilise Reiryoku when fighting, but this is also paired with secondary aspects in order to create divergent fighting styles and unique abilities. In the case of the Shinigami, they typically use the spiritual energy generated from their soul alongside a Zanpakutō to combat their enemies; essentially a power from within themselves. In direct contrast, the Quincy accumulate Reishi from the environment in order to form weapons, and augment various techniques; a power garnered from the outside. They absorb this energy into their bodies, and shape it according to their whims to devastating effect. Muto is particularly adept at drawing ambient spirit particles from the environment; as they are a hybrid of both races, though, they can acquire plentiful energy through the combination of both aforementioned processes.

  • Ransōtengai (乱装天傀, "Heavenly Wild Puppet Suit"): This advanced technique consists of numerous invisible Reishi threads which serve as a medium for the user's will. Muto can use them in the event their body is crippled or otherwise incapacitated, but their mental faculties remain intact. In such a case, they employ the threads to control it like a marionette, so they can continue fighting virtually unimpeded. Broken or lost limbs, paralysis, or, with some effort, even a binding spell, all prove little to no hindrance to the strength of their will.
  • Blut [血装 (ブルート) burūto, German for "Blood", Japanese for "Blood Guise"]: Some say the gift bestowed upon everyone who has got the blood of Yhwach coursing through their veins. Which, surprisingly or not, includes the peculiar hybrid that is Muto. Focussing spiritual energy that flows through their body allows them to drastically increase their performance in battle, whether in terms of attack power or durability. Nevertheless, only a single system of the two can be active at a time.
    • Blut Vene [静血装 (ブルート・ヴェーネ), burūto vēne; German for "Blood Vein", Japanese for "Stilled Blood Guise"]: The defensive form of Blut and the one most often used by Muto of the two forms. It works by creating a traceable flow of Reishi through the veins of the user, which causes them to glow visibly when struck. This grants Muto an immense increase in defence to the point that they can directly block attacks from a Shinigami's Bankai, albeit successfully for only a limited amount of times.
      • Blut Vene Anhaben [外殻静血装 (ブルート・ヴェーネ・アンハーベン), burūto vēne anhāben; German for "Wearing the Blood Vein", Japanese for "Shell of Stilled Blood Guise"]: Muto extends Blut Vene beyond their body in order to assimilate spirit particles from the environment. This allows them to generate a force field of sorts, which appears as a sizeable transparent dome. While it requires slightly more time to activate, and temporarily renders Muto immobile, the degree of protection it provides is substantially higher than that of the base technique.
    • Blut Arterie [動血装 (ブルート・アルテリエ), burūto aruterie; German for "Blood Artery", Japanese for "Moving Blood Guise"]: The offensive form of Blut and the skill that allows Muto to put up a good fight against a Bankai user without resorting to their own Bankai. By condensing all the accessible spiritual energy for the purpose of attack they can readily bolster the power of their physical strikes and ranged techniques alike[2]. Nevertheless, in doing so Muto becomes more vulnerable to swift retaliation.
Zanpakutō

Kachō Fūgetsu (花鳥風月, "Beauties of Nature"): The sealed form of the Zanpakutō appears as a kaiken with a plain wooden hilt. Typically, Muto conceals the weapon in a sleeve pouch (袂, tamoto) of their furisode. When clad in their combat attire, though, they simply hold it in their hand.

  • Shikai: The release command is "Dream" (夢見る, yumemiru). Muto holds the Zanpakutō in front of their chest. Subsequently, it transforms into a gunsen, a folding fan with ribs made of sturdy but lightweight metal. The cover is adorned with a beautiful depiction of a meadow at night, illuminated by a full moon. Short blades might jut out from the ribs if Muto wishes so.
Shikai Special Ability: The special ability of Kachō Fūgetsu is Kunpū (薫風, "Balmy Breeze"). With each gentle wave of the gunsen light, refreshing wind sweeps across the area. Said wind is in fact Muto's spiritual pressure, which spreads in a manner that is not just inconspicuous, but actually mild and pleasant. Unnoticed, it melds with the spiritual pressure of anyone within Muto's vicinity. Thus, Kachō Fūgetsu influences their minds and souls to instil tranquillity where there is anxiety, hostility, or doubt. Meanwhile, the world around them gradually becomes languid, soft, and blurry, like a pleasant dream; an ethereal mist evelops their senses, and steadily dulls their perception. Few would want to wake up from such an experience, and few can act with any degree of acuteness or accuracy in such an entranced state, although violence might introduce a pang of lucid terror into this peaceful world. And, just as pleasant dreams eventually fade away, so does Kachō Fūgetsu's influence begin to wear off shortly after exposure ceases.
  • Bankai: Jitsugetsu Seishin (日月星辰, "The Heavenly Bodies"): Unknown. Muto is allowed to employ their Bankai only when their life depends on it, and they have to leave no witnesses. Whilst they were confident that they could singlehandedly defeat base form Averian using their Bankai, they abstained from even attempting to do so because of the power boost that his own release they suspected would entail[5].
