Motoko Kuragari (暗がり素子, "Gloomy Uncovered Child"), formerly Motoko Manihōrudo (重重素子, "Manifold Uncovered Child"), is a Shinigami and the Lieutenant of the Second Division. She serves under Captain Ikiryō Kuragari, to whom she is married.
Appearance[]
Motoko is a slender and relatively tall young woman. She has dark brown, shoulder-length hair and faded-green eyes.
Her Shihakushō is much shorter than the standard one and ends in a skirt-like manner. She wears knee-high white boots, and her Lieutenant badge is strapped on her left arm. Additionally, she dons a silver bracelet on her left wrist, a gift from Captain Kuragari given to her at the time of her promotion to Lieutenant.
Personality[]
Overall, Motoko is a strong-willed and strict individual. She takes her role as a Lieutenant very seriously and does everything in her ability to serve her Captain well.
Even though she maintains an image of severity and cold professionalism most of the time, she has a softer side which she extremely rarely displays. In addition, her attitude seems quite cynical most of the time.

Powers and Abilities[]

Expert Swordsman: Due to the nature of her Zanpakutō powers, she relies heavily on her sword-fighting skill. Consequently, she has trained extensively and became highly proficient in this art. Hakuda Expert: Since unarmed combat is vital in her Division, Motoko has been practicing it with her Captain for a few decades. As a result she can defeat lesser opponents without even drawing her sword. Shunpo Expert: Kuragari's agility is extraordinary, even amongst fellow Lieutenants. She can even keep up with most Captains in terms of speed, and frequently utilises it in combat to her advantage. Kidō Expert: Following her Captain's example, Motoko has learnt various Kidō spells in order to complement her other combat skills. She is capable of effectively using low-level Kidō without incantations. | |

Enhanced Strength: Her strength is significantly higher than one could expect of her. She has trained it intensely because it is an important element of Hakuda. Enhanced Durability: In addition, the resistance of her body to damage is noticeably increased as well. Keen Tactician: Motoko is a fairly skilled deputy commander capable of ordering other Lieutenants and even less experienced superiors around. With her ability to remain composed in combat she can make more rational and accurate decisions than many of her peers. High Spiritual Power: As a Lieutenant she boasts a high amount of spiritual energy. When exerted, it manifests as gently gleaming aura of maize colour. | |
