Luke Hitsugaya is a shinigami of the 10th division. He is the cousin of Tōshirō Hitsugaya.
Appearence[]
Luke Hitsugaya is very young by Soul Society standards. Born in the province of Jurin'an in the First District of West Rukongai, he becomes one of the youngest ever to graduate from the Shinigami Academy. Many call him a genius. He is short (because of his age) and has blue hair. He wears standard shinigami garb, save for a sky blue sash around his shoulders held together by a round clip. He is also one of four Shinigami that carry a Zanpakutō on their back, the others being Ichigo Kurosaki, Sanji Toshiro and Tōshirō Hitsugaya. Hitsugaya's short stature and the blade's length (about 130cm long) may explain the similar style. The sheath completely dissolves when he draws his sword, much like his cousin, Tōshirō Hitsugaya's zanpakuto.
Personality[]
Luke, even as a shinigami, is unusual in his values and personality. These unique values and personality separate him from most shinigami; as powerful as he is, he does not like fighting much. However, when he is forced to fight, he shows special interest in protecting his family and friends. Like his captain, Luke has a pure and gentle heart. Besides concerning himself with his family and his squad, Luke has a strong attachment with his mentor: his captain's cousin and best friend, named Tora Toshiro. Tora trained Luke after his promotion to fourth seat. Sanji, of the first division, also has influence on Luke, as almost an uncle/nephew relationship, mainly because Sanji is captain Ryun's cousin and Tora's brother.

Kido Expert: Unlike most of his division, he is quite adept at Kido. He is capable of using a level 60 spell without incantation.
Zanjutsu Master: He is extremely proficient in the use of his zanpakuto.
Decent Spiritual Power: He has the largest amount of spiritual pressure of any seated officer in the 10th division.
Zanpakuto[]
Kōueneki (氷輪丸, literally, "Flaming lizard") is a very powerful, fire-type zanpakuto. When sealed, Kōueneki looks like a normal katana with the exception of the guard, which is in the shape of a seven-pointed star. It is about 1.4 meters long, which is as tall as Hitsugaya himself, causing him to carry it on his back. Its hilt is light blue and sheath dark green.
- Shikai: Kōueneki's release command is "Help me fly". It causes fire to flow from Kōueneki onto Luke, forming into a long tail, two large wings which enable him to fly, and his 7-pointed star hilt changes into an 12 star one. His shoulders are partly encased in fire and sprouting from his back are wings.
- Bankai: not achieved yet, though it is implied by Ryun, that he may be the only other person on the 10th squad who could ever obtain a Bankai.
