Kojima Taira (小島平, Taira Kojima) is a disgraced member of the Taira Clan, and former Captain of the 7th Division of the Gotei 13. His third seat at this time was Shin Nagakura, who preceded him as Captain.

Zanpakutō[]
Kinhashi (金端, Golden Edge). Kojima's zanpakutō is sealed in the form of a double-bladed sword-staff with a long central handle. The hilt wrapping is golden with a shiny golden guard positioned at the base of each single blade.
Kinhashi released.
- Shikai: Kojima releases his zanpakutō with the command "Shine towards the Future". Once uttered the dual blade snaps in the center and folds upwards on hidden hinges, where the two blades sit parallel with one another. The blades fuse together into a single blade which now appears like that of a cleaver with a silver cutting edge and blackened outer edge. At the tip is a hollow portion of blade that constantly spills forth golden light, which in-turn suffuses the entire blade.
- Shikai Special Ability: Any limb successfully cut by the blade is turned into gold, preventing the use of the limb. A single shallow cut to the head can thus prove fatal, as nothing can be done to stop the power once it takes effect save killing Kojima or severing the limb.
- Bankai: Kinhashi Gintama (金端 銀弾, Golden Edge, Silver Bullet): Kojima's Bankai summons to the battlefield a large golden-covered warrior wielding the same power as Kojima does.
- Bankai Special Ability: Anything the giant touches turns to gold at a faster rate than the Shikai variant, making the giants sheer size another advantage. The downside is that spiritual attacks such as Kidō take longer to turn to gold than physical impacts do, meaning that the giant can indeed be hurt. Physical attacks are nullified completely, for they are turned to gold almost instantly, with the exception of a Quincy's Heilig Pfeil and Spirit Weapon.
- Gintama (銀弾, Silver Bullet): the only named ability of Kinhashi Gintama and also its most frightening. Once something has turned to gold, Kojima makes as though to fire a gun with his fingers, causing anything covered in gold to instantly and violently explode. The golden shell contains the explosion, making the attack fatal.
