Iyori Hizakura (緋桜 惟織, Hizakura Iyori) is a Shinigami and member of the Gotei 13. A skilled chemist and toxicologist, he hails from the noble Hizakura family, a clan which specialises in the production of textiles. He was an established member of the Onmitsukidō's Analytical Unit, which was responsible for responding to and preventing threats before they occurred. He was noted for his keen medical skills, and approached to join the Gotei 13 under Hisaka Tsukada as the Lieutenant of the Fourth Division. An offer he accepted.
Appearance[]
Iyori is a handsome young man, looking to be in his early-to-mid twenties. He is of clear Asian descent, but possesses hints of Slavic origin in his features. A lithe, but strong individual, he has the physique one would expect of someone trained by the Onmitsukidō's dedicated assassins, his body is lined with trace amounts of muscle that hints at greater strength without making it wholly obvious. He possesses a body of beautiful scarlet hair, a trait inherited from his mother. Though no where near as voluminous as his twin, it is still quite lengthy, reaching half way down his back, where it is tied with a simple blue scrunchy. At the front his hair is delicately arranged so that it frames his face perfectly, and in such a way as to appear as if that is how it rests naturally. The features of his face are largely soft and rounded, giving Iyori a light feminine air, though his strong ridges and cheekbones help provide him with some much needed masculine definition. He has thin, short scarlet eyebrows, which sit above his seaweed green pupils, that themselves paint a rather relaxing visage in combination with his soft, lightly rounded eyes. He has a small nose, but a strong bridge, and lips that are almost always stretched into a wide smile.
As the son of a highly skilled tailor, as well as someone given to some magical aptitude, it is nothing unusual for Iyori to pride himself upon the highlights of fashion and eccentricity, even more so given his life with the Onmitsukidō which enforced strict rules regarding its uniform upon its members. Iyori's dress sense highlights how enamoured he is with the fashion of the modern world, and his ensemble consist entirely of garments borne in the Human World, though they were all handcrafted by his own hands. His outfit typically consists of a large heavy duty coat made with a garish orange colour, though lighter shades are mixed in down the front and over the shoulders of it. The collar of the jacket is flattened over the shoulders, revealing its black furry interior, on the outside are two simple leather straps with squared buckles to tie them together. The shoulders of the coat are marked by a pair of epaulettes that are held down with a large metal button, and hanging over them are a pair of decorative straps. There are another set of straps, this time sewn into the coat itself that rest on the forearms just before the cuffs. The cuffs themselves are large and belted with a square and D-shaped combination fastener.
A second pair of sleeves is sewn into the coat arms, made of up black material that stretch out a little further than the outer sleeves, completely obscuring Iyori's wrists. The main body of the coat reaches down a short way past Iyori's waist, and has two straps hanging off either side of it above a pair of large pockets. Additionally there is a steel buckle on the right side of the chest close to the zipper. Underneath the coat he wears a grey waist coat, and a white turtle-neck sweater. His hands are covered by a pair of brown fingerless gloves with a steel buckle emblazoned on the back. His lower body is covered by a pair of black work slacks that are tied around his waist with a simple brown leather belt with a solid steel buckle. For footwear he adorns a pair of simple black socks under a pair of Oxford-style shoes that are made of fine leather that are primarily a deep shade of brown, with segmented parts across either side of the lace-line being a softer more cream-esque shade.
Though he typically foregoes the Shinigami Shihakushō entirely for his own personal ensemble, he is willing to wear it for ceremonial events so as not to act out of disrespect.
Personality[]
History[]
Equipment[]
Staff: Iyori carries with him a large, rather technical-looking staff that resembles a halberd. Standing at 1.8 metres (73") tall, the shaft is as long as its wielder is tall, with its head rising to stand at least a head taller than him. The shaft is made of steel and possesses a grip two-thirds up its body made out of navy cloth wrapped over and over. The bottom of the shaft is adorned with a simple black pommel that is molded into a ring on one end. The head resembles that of an axe, but is entirely blunt. Feeding in directly from the shaft is a cylindrical frame with green rings at the top and bottom as well as a light that rests on top of the frame. The spike is made up of two attached blocky pieces of metal that are joined together to match the profile of an axe spike though they don't fulfill its purpose. The face of it is similar, presenting a curved face with an inward groove as it rises over the head and somewhat resembles a magnet. Its primary use is as a catalyst for Iyori's magic, and he claims its metallic form is a testament to his skill over the control of lightning, though he was gifted with it long before he ever took up study of Hadō.
Powers & Abilities[]
Ursine Transformation: Iyori is subject to a deep-rooted curse that transforms him into a bear whenever he becomes too risqué. Placed upon him by his twin sister when they were younger, the curse was meant to curb what she believed were the beginnings of a heinous pervert, and so the spell becomes active whenever Iyori gets too close to someone in an intimate sense, be they male or female, or whenever he happens to think thoughts that are construed as "overly lewd". When these transformations occur, Iyori is turned into a small anthropomorphic bear. Standing at fourty centimetres (16") tall, he possesses the features of a caricature, an overly large head with rounded ears on top, beady eyes and a light brown snout. His body is small but chubby and he has long arms and hands that each possess three digits. His legs are of similar length and each foot has stylised paw tracks on their soles. He is covered in dark brown fur, and his body is covered by a simple yellow loincloth. This form is based on a mascot character that is incredibly popular in the Rukongai, known as King Loaf (キング ローフ, Kingu Rōfu). This results in no end of harassment whenever he takes the form, both from children and adults alike, be it for affection or nostalgia. Whenever the form is taken, Iyori will be trapped like that until an entire twenty four hours pass, and he is unable to break the transformation through force. Despite his general dislike of it, he has made exceptional use of it for reconnaissance and infiltration in the past. Expert Assassin: Though he joined the Analytical Unit, a branch of the Onmitsukidō that saw little over action, he was still trained in all of the arts expected of an assassin during the mandatory sections of training to join the Onmitsukidō. Though he doesn't like fighting, his instructors have pointed out that he has a great aptitude for it, often picking up on things that others would have missed or coming up with unorthodox solutions to problems that allowed him to reach his targets quicker. Having completed all of the necessary training, Iyori has become a skilled infiltrator and assassin, able to enter compounds and fortresses without ever being noticed or spotted and eliminating a target silently enough that many of his early mission reports declared that he left no traces of himself behind. He is highly knowledgeable on the vulnerable points of the spiritual body, and knows just how to take advantage of them to instantly cripple or kill someone; though he claims disuse has made him rusty. He is very skilled at hiding his presence, making himself almost invisible to the world around him and as a member of the Analytical Unit he is well versed in the study and application of a variety of chemicals, even having developed resistance to his fair share of them.

Kidō Master: Iyori has never known his mother, but was bestowed an incredible inclination towards the magical arts from her, and the stories about her that his father would tell to him and his sister as they grew up. With that in mind, it is hard to imagine any other path in life that Iyori could have taken, he has always seemed destined to follow the ways of magic. Knowing his mother's prowess in the arts made him wish to pursue them as well, but in a way that made him distinct, based on the wish that he could one day show and impress her with his own distinct craft. Likewise this set him on a path to be different from his sister, who had also taken up the art of spellcraft. Thus schools that focused less on combat and theoretical study were his main goals, and to help distinguish him from everyone else he sought to integrate the Hizakura's family craft into the mix. Today he stands as a confident and proud mage, highly skilled in all of the primary forms available. He is a storied and well practiced student of Kaidō where his talents lie primarily, as well as a versatile practitioner of Bakudō spells. Though he does not focus on it, he is also well versed in a number of Hadō spells. He tries to ingratiate all parts of his life into his spellcraft, such that it embodies the subterfuge and stealth of a member of the Onmitsukidō, as well as the mysticism and sheer wonder of the stories he was told as a boy, even including the flamboyant and colourful nature of his family's tailouring work. Each of these parts are disparate and, under normal circumstances, would clash or weaken each other, but Iyori has come to find the means to make them work together and his magic is all the greater for it. His skills are shown in incredible feats of distraction that give way to violently quick cascades, a show is put on, but it is over in a flash as he strikes with deathly precision unusual for a master of spells. He is not unaware of schools beyond those taught to the Gotei 13, and has dabbled both in arts uniquely available to the Onmitsukidō and those that are usually kept secret or disregarded by Soul Society at large. Speaking in terms of raw skill, he is capable of casting all Bakudō spells of the 99-numbered line, and can cast as far as Bakudō #85 without incantation whilst maintaining its full strength on his own. Similarly, for something outside of his purview he is able to treat Hadō spells up to #50 the same way. In studying the arts of Kidō, he has resorted to constructing his own unique systems and crafts in order to better facilitate his magic, this includes variants on conjuring and spell "delivery" to an entire branch wholly reliant on manipulation of cloth and fabrics.
Hohō Expert: The ability to move quickly and dynamically is a major skill in the Onmitsukidō, and all of its members receive mandatory training in it whether they are in a combat role or not. This, then, has given Iyori a greater grasp on what goes into the skill known as Hohō beyond what is normally expected. Its primary use is in the creation of footholds, allowing one to walk in the air, and the ability known as Shunpo which allows one to travel at incredible speeds. While Iyori is no slouch at either ability, able to walk into the sky as freely as he would the ground and covering considerable leaps in a single bound with Shunpo, there is more to it than that for him. The broader concepts of Hohō have allowed him to hone his perceptions, granting him greater senses so that he may more easily pick out minutia with his eyes, or catch up on sounds that would normally be of a frequency unknowable to him. It guides his precision and allows him to not only step at an incredible pace but accelerate other parts of himself, thus acting as an incredible tool for augmenting his sewing skills as he completes his work, even when using Reiryoku threads to construct spells, in an instant. |
