This article, Iyori Endō, was added by Lecliss who determines its usage on this wiki.

"Kindness provides more Strength than hatred ever will."

Iyori Endō (淵藤一順, Endō Iyori) is the second eldest of the Endō children. As with the rest of his siblings, Iyori has been spiritually aware his whole life. He is seen as the perfect child by their father and is a professional Iaidō champion.

Appearance[]

Iyori is a pale man of average height with blue eyes and long dark blue hair. He typically wears a white suit with the jacket resting on his shoulders. Iyori is described by some as having empty eyes.

At fourteen, Iyori's hair was tied near the bottom.

Fifteen months after Aizen's defeat, Iyori's hair has grown longer.

Twelve years after Yhwach's defeat, Iyori's hair is even longer and he now wears it in a high ponytail.

Personality[]

Iyori is rather carefree compared to the rest of his family and prefers doing his own thing. He is seen as the perfect child by his father despite his complete lack of interest in the family business. At home he follows his father's every order and acts as Mikado's assistant. He doesn't seem to realize that his father treats him more like an employee than a son.

While Tsuneo maliciously views him as superficial and disingenuous, it is true that others perceive him that way as well. Along with his calm and reserved demeanor, Iyori also simply struggles with properly expressing himself and his emotions. He speaks nothing but the truth, but often comes off as sarcastic due to his lack of a sincere tone. He also tends to talk in short sentences. He always has a small smile on his face and never seems to change his facial expression much, unnerving some people who notice the lack of change.

What Tsuneo doesn't know about Iyori is that he greatly looks up to his older brother. He is often inspired by how hard Tsuneo has worked to be seen by their father and how mature and responsible Tsuneo is. His efforts to help Tsuneo after their father's death was out of respect for the way Tsuneo stepped up as the family head. He has always had nothing but admiration for Tsuneo, yet has always been confused by the way Tsuneo constantly pushes him away. If there's anything Iyori has always wanted, it's for a good relationship with his only older brother.

Iyori has an intense love for katanas, even owning a collection that he started when he was only nine. His interest in them branched out into Iyori wanting to learn how to wield them, which landed him in Kendō classes at eleven. By fourteen he switched to Iaidō, which could be considered an obsession with how much his life revolves around it now.

Iyori also has a deep respect for the concept of bushido and the life of a samurai. He sometimes wishes he could have born in the past where he could become a real samurai. He loves watching historical movies that include samurai, whether they be documentaries or pure fiction. His favorite subject, as a result, has always been history as well. He even owns replica samurai armor, which he works hard to keep in pristine condition.

He appears to be fascinated with Kotsuru and her Squad 3 companions, especially their Zanpakutō, and would love to know as much about Soul Reapers as possible. Kotsuru finds him a bit too eager to learn more at times.

History[]

Iyori was born as the second son of Mikado and Hayami Endō. He was immediately seen as a perfect child with how quiet, happy, and obedient he was, causing his older brother, Tsuneo, to be ignored in favor of him. While he wanted a brotherly relationship with Tsuneo, Tsuneo wanted nothing to do with Iyori.

As a small child, Iyori was terrified of the supernatural things he could see and often struggled to sleep at night as a result. Tsuneo used to find ways to make him more scared, but his mother always comforted and assured him everything would be okay.

When Iyori was seven he watched his first samurai movie and quickly became obsessed with them. His interest quickly shifted specifically to katanas and his father gifted him his first sword when he was nine, kicking off his eventual extensive sword collection. By eleven he was enrolled in Kendō classes and proved to be a natural expert.

By the time he was thirteen, his mother succumbed to her worsening health and passed away. Iyori cried for days and had to be escorted out of her funeral due to causing too much of a scene. He threw himself further into his hobbies to cope with the loss.

At fourteen, Iyori switched from Kendō to Iaidō. He began making a name for himself by winning competitions and eventually made a living for himself as an undefeated champion.

Plot[]

Welcome to Fubuki City Arc[]

Iyori is present with the rest of the family in the living room when Kūzen and Naoe come home from school. Their father makes an announcement that the family is moving north to Fubuki City in Hokkaido for family business.

Mother Arc[]

Iyori is present when the Hollow, Mother, first attacks Mikado. He tried to defend his father, but is knocked back by the Hollow. He physically put himself between Mikado and Mother and she chooses to leave instead. Once Mikado is admitted to the hospital, Iyori calls his siblings to let them know and goes to pick up Kūzen to bring him there.

When Mother returns after Mikado is discharged from the hospital, Iyori once again tries to defend his father. When Tsuneo and Shiemi try to keep him alive, Iyori guards them while Kūzen and Kotsuru fight Mother. Despite defeating her, Mikado ultimately succumbs to his injuries and dies.

Iyori witnesses The Guard's announcement over the television networks that they're taking over Fubuki City for everyone's own good alongside his siblings.

He later attends his father's funeral, but notices that no one but Shiemi and Naoe appear saddened by Mikado's death, not even himself. He discusess his feelings, or lack thereof, with Shiemi.

The Guard Arc[]

Iyori is chosen by Endō Enterprises' board of directors to replace Tsuneo as company President following Tsuneo's promotion to owner and CEO. Tsuneo reluctantly goes to Iyori to deliver the news. Despite being surprised they would choose him since he has no business knowledge, Iyori accepts the position anyway.

Iyori aids Tsuneo in going over their father's possessions at the estate. They find a locked safe in their father's office that they have never seen before and try to find the code for it. Unsuccessful, Iyori tries to break it open, but fails.

Tsuneo's Decision Arc[]

Shuya and Hojan Arc[]

Following the rescue of Itsuki, Iyori approaches Tsuneo and asks to have a calm and sincere talk with him.

Iyori escorts Tsuneo, Itsuki, and Mei away from the battle against Hojan Unomunna.

Hunger Arc[]

Fifteen months later, together with Iyori, Tsuneo has downsized the family company just a bit to make it more manageable for them.

After Kūzen loses his Fullbring, Iyori offers to train him so he can still have a means to fight.

The Thousand-Year Blood War Arc[]

Echoing Jaws of Hell Arc[]

Iyori is briefly seen in a board meeting alongside Tsuneo with Shiemi as Tsuneo's secretary.

Equipment[]

Kendō Shinai: A bamboo practice sword that Iyori often carries around with him in public when bringing a real sword would be inappropriate of him. One of them is broken by the Hollow, Mother, when Iyori tries to defend Mikado from her.

Iaitō: A metal sword with a blunt edge that Iyori uses for his Iaidō practice. Unlike his bamboo sword, Iyori does not bring this one into public spaces, but does intend to use it in the event of a home invasion. He has once used it to separate Tsuneo and Yorito when they got into a fight in the house.

Katana: One of Iyori's personal favorites from his sword collection that he uses only in special occasions or for real combat. It has a purple hilt and rectangular tsuba. He brings this sword with him when confronting Tsuneo after his brother kidnaps Itsuki and to the fight against the Hollowfied Kūzen.

Powers & Abilities[]

Expert Swordsman: Having trained in Kendō since he was eleven and switching to Iaidō at fourteen, Iyori has years of practice and training with swords under his belt. He has won many tournaments, almost all of which are for Iaidō and his earliest wins being for Kendō. Disregarding a difference in physical strength and the abilities of a Zanpakutō, Iyori's skills are easily on par with a Lieutenant Soul Reaper.

Enhanced Reflexes: Iyori is hyper aware of his surroundings and therefore able to react quickly to anything near him. He can sidestep and block incoming attacks with precision timing. He can also move to save others in time and follow through with commands as soon as he's given an order.

Spiritual Awareness: Inherited from his mother, Iyori is capable of clearly seeing Pluses, Hollows, Soul Reapers, and other supernatural phenomena. He is capable of recognizing the Reiatsu of each of his siblings individually and determining their approximate locations.

Weaknesses[]

Quotes[]

  • (To Kotsuru) "Your sword is beautiful. And your form is impressive. You must have trained for years to be that skilled. Would you mind sparring with me sometime? I haven't had a chance to spar with someone since moving here."
  • (To Shiemi about Mikado's death) "Is it strange? That I feel nothing? It was tragic. We couldn't save him... but it's like no one cares. Kūzen is doing his own thing, Yorito hasn't said anything about it, and Tsuneo is too busy to acknowledge it. Are we heartless? What's become of this family?"
  • (To Tsuneo) "You... are my brother. My only big brother. It was you and me first. I have always looked up to you. I've always aspired to be like you. You're such a go-getter. I feel like I don't do anything but play with toys compared to you. I wish we could talk. I always want to talk to you, but you never want to listen. Will you listen to me now? Will you talk to me? I want to know what caused this. I want to know how I can help. I want to be there for my brother. I want to have a real relationship with you. Just let me in, Tsuneo."
