Ichiei Shiba (志波 一榮, Shiba Ichiei) is a male Shinigami born to the Shiba Clan, prior from its fall as one of the five noble houses of Soul Society. He is the older brother of Isshin Kurosaki, making him the uncle to Ichigo Kurosaki, and is also the father of Kaien Shiba, Kūkaku Shiba, and Ganju Shiba. Several centuries ago, he once served as the Captain of an unspecified division within the Gotei 13. It is unknown as to why Ichiei was removed from his position, though it is often stated that he had committed a treacherous act against the Soul Society that brought great shame to the Shiba Clan, forcing him to go into self-exile to distance himself from the clan so as to protect his own family. Though many believed him to have passed away, he had eventually earned for himself a reputation within Rukongai as a teacher to the weak who were incapable of protecting themselves from Hollows. Ichiei would later become one of the Five Noble Swords, recognized as the 'Autumn Blade'. During his time as a Captain, and even during his days in exile, he had been renowned as "Black Blade Ichiei" (黒刀の一榮, Kokutō no Ichiei).
