This article, Hunger and Greed arc, is part of Bleach: War for the King's Seal, which continues on from the opening segments of the site's former Fanon Canon project. Use of this page's contents is determined by the author of this page, unless otherwise specified.

The Hunger and Greed arc, known as the Hueco Mundo arc and The Averian trilogy prior to its current designation, was the opening arc of Bleach: War for the King's Seal, serving as a follow-up to the trilogy of side-stories written by User:Kenji Hiroshi for the old Fanon Canon project. This trilogy consisted of the 9th Division Assault arc, the Blank period arc, and the The New Substitute arc.

War for the King's Seal effectively replaced the old Fanon Canon project, for it took place in an alternate setting, yet retained certain aspects of the aforementioned work, whilst discarding others. Whilst primarily worked on by Kenji, a number of the chapters were collaborations, including Vampiric Entry and Hunger and Greed: Predation. Additionally, chapters such as Sinking Sun and Lightning From Heaven were solo endeavours.

The main point-of-view characters shifted frequently, although Akira Hiroshi was the primary. Others included Ashido, Gundinger Drelairn, Siegfried Adler, and Vlad. Prominent supporting characters included Zaleska, Myst Kagekyo, Hikari Raiotto, Shiratori, and Anika Shihōin, with the established cast from the prior trilogy returning. Antagonistic forces included Hotaru Hiroshi and his Coven, the mysterious Muto and their unknown benefactor, as well as Averian. Averian, in particular, served as the most recognizable threat, with Hotaru and Muto scheming in the background.

Overview[]

Having finally resolved himself to stopping his twin, Akira makes the painful choice to leave the Forest of Menos and confront Hotaru in earnest. Fate, however, had different ideas.

Averian, having gathered his power for decades after his seal eroded, makes an explosive return in an effort to quench his growing hunger. Caught between averting the war that plagued his own world or stopping his brother from potentially sparking another, Akira must make a choice: focus on Averian, or stop Hotaru? Or will he do what neither Kenji nor Kusaka managed, and walk the middle road to achieve both objectives? With his allies at his side, he'll certainly try. But even if he succeeds, what awaits in the wings?

The enigmatic being known only as "The Archon", with his subordinates Muto and Ikari, alongside Gekko, are watching and waiting, their goals and pursuits thus far unknown. Furthermore, the Tres Pilares are at loggerheads with the remnants of the Wandenreich, a situation inflamed by Averian himself, and Grimmjow can only remain patient for so long. The question is, how long?

The long peace is at an end.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Averian was never intended to appear in the FC. Whilst certain references were made to him, these were intended solely to tie the work to the author's primary setting. The Ryū Order, however, was always intended to appear as a faction, the goal of which was to stop Hotaru securing the Ōin. Their purpose evolved to include thwarting Averian to fit the new setting.
  • The Coven, headed by an Archon, originally served as the main antagonistic force of the Fanon Canon project. Once the project became effectively dead, and work began on the King's Seal continuation, the Coven was repurposed, with the focus shifting to Averian. Certain threads remained in the event someone showed interest in the concept. Saris, however, retained The Archon and Muto as mysterious antagonists, with a possible link back to The Coven.
