Hibiki Sasuyōna (刺すようなひびき, "Piercing Sound") was a Shinigami and the Lieutenant of the Sixth Division. He used to serve under Captain Haruka Mewokuramasu.
Appearance[]
Hibiki is a young man of average build. He has shoulder-length dark blond hair and brown eyes.
Personality[]
Energetic and loquacious, he also believes in the power of Gotei 13 Captains, but nonetheless remains anxious as long as they are on the enemy territory[1]. Moreover, he can be relied upon during battle to watch a colleague's back[2].
Plot[]
During the mission to Hueco Mundo conducted by the eight Captains, Sasuyōna and three other Lieutenants are patrolling Seireitei together. Hibiki expresses his anxiety about the Captains, since he believes they should have accomplished their task already, despite the fact they have departed only around half an hour earlier. Ryū Suijōki calls him on this, and Motoko Manihōrudo complains about Sasuyōna's laquaciousness as Kana Enodoriko attempts to quiet them down.
When Ryū begins pestering Motoko about her own anxiety, Hibiki tells her not to hide her feelings regarding Captain Ikiryō Kuragari, as there is no need to do so amongst friends. Further conversation is rendered impossible as they are alerted about enemy intrusion. Soon afterward, they encounter a silent Vasto Lorde and prepare to fight her as she summons her troops[1].
Subsequently, the four officers engage a multitude of lesser Hollows. When Suijōki is distracted in the process of killing an Adjuchas and surrounded by a sizeable group of opponents, Hibiki helps him by blasting them with a Shikai ability. Soon, the Vasto Lorde herself confronts them[2].
Sasuyōna attacks with Shikai, but the adversary's barrier withstands its power easily. Later, he observes as the other Lieutenants try to outmatch her, and is subsequently surprised when the Vasto Lorde teleports behind him and Ryū. Faster of the two, Hibiki slashes at her with another Shikai ability. However, the Hollow blocks effortlessly, blasts Suijōki with Bala and then fires another one straight into Sasuyōna's face. Hibiki falls limply on the ground[3].
He does not survive the attack, and is the highest-ranked casualty Gotei 13 has sustained during the battle[4].
Powers and Abilities[]

Expert Swordsman: As a requirement to become a Lieutenant, Hibiki has trained Zanjutsu sufficiently to become highly proficient in the art. Shunpo Expert: Moreover, he is very fast even by Lieutenant standards, being on a Captain-level in terms of speed. Notably, when Apatía has unexpectedly appeared behind him and Ryū Suijōki, Hibiki has managed to attack the enemy with a Shikai technique before the other Shinigami even started turning around[3]. Kidō Practitioner: Sasuyōna can utilise low-level spells in combat, but otherwise relies mostly on his Zanpakutō. | |
