Hein Ueda (上田 弊ン, Ueda Hein) is a Shinigami and the current captain of the Seventh Division. Well-known for his peculiar accent and his ability to fight while blind, Hein is infamous for his signature brutality and lack of respect. Before becoming a Shinigami, Hein was feared throughout the Southern Rukongai as a ruthless gang leader, known as the "Tiger of Takegama" (竹銼の虎, Takegama no Tora) and one of the Four Kings of the Rukongai (Rukon Yondaishō, 流魂四大将 , "Four Rukon Kings," Viz, "Four Wandering Soul Kings"). Since Hein has not revealed his reasons for becoming a Shinigami, he is generally mistrusted by his comrades.

• The name of Hein's Zanpakutō is a reference to Enma, the king of Hell in Buddhist cosmology.
• In Japanese, Hein's voice actor would be Tomokazu Seki, who plays Sanemi Shinazugawa in the anime series Demon Slayer and Rekka Hoshimiya in the anime series Fire Force, among other roles.
