Gokoku-ji (護国寺 Protection of the Nation Temple) is a Shingon Buddhist temple in Tokyo's Bunkyō. It is also the current clan residence of the Onmyouji's Sengoku Clan and its various branch families. Currently, it is under the leadership of the young clan head, Akira Sengoku.
Overview[]
Established in 1681 by the 18th Head of the Sengoku Clan, Ryōken Sengoku the temple served as his clan's residence and was the training facility to many other Onmyouji. Among them, it is particularly famous for its knowledge in Hakkyoku-ken (八極拳 Eight Extremities Fist). The entire temple is encased in barriers and other various Onmyoujutsu. That is the main reason for it surviving the American air raids during World War II, whereas most other historical sites in Tokyo were turned into rubble.
