- "Well, this certainly qualifies as an oddity. And father said those have left the world? I can't wait until he sees this one."
- —Gengetsu upon sensing the reiatsu of Muto during the latter's battle with Averian.[src]

Gengetsu (弦月), known fully as Gengetsu Tepes, and once feared as Gengetsu of the Crescent Moon, was a Reikon Kyuuban born into what is generally accepted as the second generation, whose earliest feats came in the Reikon Kyuuban-Shinigami War. As the son of Vlad, Gengetsu was intended to succeed his father as the Head of House Tepes, though his untimely death meant that his sister, Zaleska, inherited his position. Something of a scholar, Gengetsu travelled the realms seeking knowledge. Like his father before him, Gengetsu was one of the few Reikon Kyuuban to strictly refer to himself as a Vampire. Gengetsu lost his life in a brief battle with Averian.
Appearance[]
Gengetsu bore a striking resemblance to his father. Due to their races' immortality, the two were more often than not mistaken for twins. Like Vlad, Gengetsu dressed in high-fashion. This included designer dress shirts, black suit trousers, and expensive suits. This is a trait he seemed to share with the Elders, rather than the nobles of his own generation, for most of the Elders were described as "patrons of the arts" by Katsumi.[1]
Personality[]
- "Mother... Will I see you again?"
- —Gengetsu's final thoughts.[src]
This iteration of Gengetsu was a prime example of the possibilities alternate worlds hold. This version of Gengetsu never had to suffer through his father being sealed away by Katsumi in what could best be described as a lover's tiff, and his entire life was subsequently very different to the Gengetsu with whom Akira Hiroshi was familiar.[2] As such, he showed little of the violence and bloodthirsty nature that led to the massacre of the entire Shirono Family in Akira's native world.[3] In fact, Gengetsu was a scholar. He expressed a number of traits commonly attached to the Elders, specifically a love of culture and art.[1]
Although his mother's fate was unknown, as her body was never found and The Balancers of the time found it easier to seal an Elder rather than attempt to kill one, Gengetsu believed that his mother was dead.[4] Immediately prior to his own death at the hands of Averian, Gengetsu questioned whether he could see her again at last, now that he were dying too.[5]
To his detriment, and very much unlike his counterpart, however, Gengetsu had poor instincts when it came to battle, and it was for this reason that his sister, Zaleska, was believed by their brethren to be a more suitable candidate to not only inherit Vlad's position in the Thirteen Dracula, but his position as Head of House Tepes respectively.[6] During a battle with Averian, Gengetsu moved in to attack his exposed back, only to fall victim to another surprise attack by the surviving Trillizos brother, taking the brunt of a Gran Rey Cero meant for Averian in the process. Just prior to his death, he admitted that he had grown reliant on Zaleska's battlefield aptitude.[5]
History[]
Gengetsu, unlike his counterpart, benefitted from the fact that his father, Vlad, was never sealed away by his lover, Katsumi Scarlet, in what could best be described as a lover's tiff.[7] He was groomed from a young age by his father to eventually lead House Tepes, with Vlad's servants referring to him as "the young Heir".[6] He participated in the Reikon Kyuuban-Shinigami War, where he earned his title of Gengetsu of the Crescent Moon, mostly by working behind the scenes to facilitate his father's contributions.[4]
Synopsis[]

Bleach: War for the King's Seal[]
Equipment[]
- Blood vials: Gengetsu carried an assortment of vials on his person as something of a contingency. He periodically stored and preserved his own blood within these vials, essentially making them a chronicle of his life's journey for anyone with the requisite skill in Kiouku to read.[8] Just prior to his death, he entrusted these vials to Siegfried.[5]
Powers and Abilities[]
Great Spiritual Energy: Gengetsu was born into the second generation of Reikon Kyuuban, known otherwise as the nobility, making him second in strength only to the Elders.[9] Additionally, he was the intended Heir of House Tepes, a prominent Reikon Kyuuban house.[6]
Reiatsu-induced Healing: Gengetsu demonstrated a form of reiatsu-induced healing. By draining a target of their reiatsu, he was capable of rapidly healing their injuries, to the point he stabilized Siegfried's condition following a near-fatal punch from Averian.[5]
Kiouku: To a Reikon Kyuuban, blood is life, and in blood lies a chronicle of an individual's entire life, from their earliest steps to their last breath. Gengetsu periodically stored his own blood in specialized vials, allowing anyone with the requisite skill in Kiouku to read his life's journey.[8] His skill was honed to a masterful degree, to the point he could isolate specific memories and store them in vials, or create a single vial holding the entirety of his life, which he intended as a will.[5]
Expert Scythemanship: Gengetsu primarily fought unarmed, relying on his various racial traits, and only wielded a weapon upon invoking his Kyūketsuki Sutēji. Gengetsu's weapon, courtesy of The Archfiend, was a large scythe, which he showed commendable skill in.[5]
Kyūketsuki Sutēji[]
- The Archfiend (大魔王): whilst a commonality amongst the Reikon Kyuuban, no two Kyūketsuki Sutēji are identical, and Gengetsu was no exception.[10] The release of The Archfiend solidified a portion of his own blood into a large scythe and enlarged Gengetsu's physical frame, whilst giving him a demonic visage of shining red eyes and curving, demonic horns.[5]
- Special Ability: Gengetsu's power was centred around his scythe, his so-called "sickle moon", whilst providing enhanced physical and spiritual abilities across the board. Amongst the Reikon Kyuuban, enhanced spiritual power and physicality was not an uncommon trait.[10] Vlad had once compared his son's Kyūketsuki Sutēji to a Quincy's Seele Schneider, as he could literally cut and then absorb reiatsu.[11]
- Reaping: All Reikon Kyuuban possess the basic power of Chinoke and Shurashōhi, which is how they ingest the blood of their target and absorb reishi from an enemies attack, respectively.[8] Gengetsu's scythe weaponized this trait in the form of a physical weapon, which allowed him to "feed" on his opponent's power in a more direct manner.[5]
Author's notes[]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the initial draft of Bleach: War for the King's Seal, Gengetsu didn't exist. Through conversation with Fire, the author ported him over to take the place of Siegfried Adler, who was intended to die at the hands of Averian. Gengetsu's untimely death was intended as a plot device to provide a personal stake in the ongoing battles against Averian for Vlad.
Trivia[]
- Gengetsu's title is derived from one meaning behind his name. Gengetsu can translate to "crescent moon". Alternatively, it can translate to moon dog. Thusly, his title means "Moon Dog of the Crescent Moon".
