Fudo Shōdo (焦土フドウ, "Scorched Earth Fire God") was a Shinigami and the Captain of the Fifth Division. His Lieutenant was Ryū Suijōki.
Appearance[]
Fudo is a tall, dark-skinned man. He is quite muscular, but slightly overweight at the same time. He has black crew-cut hair and brown eyes.
He wears a sleeveless variant of the standard Shinigami Shihakushō and similarly customised haori on it.
Personality[]
Shōdo is a brave, combative and bold person, a true warrior[1]. He does not hesitate to fight, particularly in order to protect Seireitei, his family and comrades. Moreover, he has a strong sense of justice and loyalty, and he is very attached to his colleagues.
He is rather hot-tempered and violent in combat. Normally friendly[2][3] and somewhat jovial[1], he can be quite easily irritated.

Powers and Abilities[]

Master Swordsman: Shōdo has considerable experience in Zanjutsu and has trained it for many decades. Eventually, he has achieved a master-level skill common among the more seasoned Captains of Gotei 13. For instance, he is capable of swinging and spinning his sizeable Bankai with little effort, and he can deflect both powerful or surprisingly fast attacks in the process[4]. Hakuda Combatant: Even though he relies mostly on Zanjutsu and his Zanpakutō powers, Fudo is proficient in unarmed combat as well. He knows the basics of this martial art and employs his considerable strength to bolster it when necessary. Shunpo Expert: Fudo is deceptively proficient in Shunpo and can utilise it efficiently to, for instance, quickly retreat after delivering a blow to the opponent[4][5] or evade barrages of fast attacks[6]. Kidō Pracitioner: He is sufficiently knowledgeable in Kidō to perform low-to-mid level spells without incantations in combat situations[5][6]. Immense Strength: When his Zanpakutō is released, he often strikes the ground to perform his techniques, literally blowing it up due to the sheer force of impact[1]. Additionally, he wields his large Bankai with no visible effort[4][5]. Immense Durability: Fudo is known to be able to take substantial punishment without it hindering his combat capability in a significant manner[5][6]. Vast Spiritual Power: He boasts an enormous amount of spiritual energy, which has the properties of extreme heat, and causes a constant blaze when used intensely[4][5].
