The First Ones are the first Shinigami that appeared after the Soul Society came into existance. They served as the Soul King's first guardians. At one point during history they suddenly disapeared, which invertedly caused the formation of the Royal Guard.
In the entire history of the Soul Society, the First Ones only appear in time of of great distress.

Do to the fact that they are Shinigami that were born befor the creation of Gotei 13, not all of its members wield Zanpakutō, they all display unique powers.
- Reincarnation: On of there most noticible abilities is there ability to reborn again after death. However not much is known about how this is achieved. The memories and skills of there previous lives are retained through the technique itself.
