The Fifth Division (五番隊, Gobantai; "Squad 5" in the English Dub) is a division in the Gotei 13. It is headed by Captain Ishihara Yamakage, with Shiemi Makinami as his lieutenant.

Barracks[]
Fifth Division's barracks.
Like all the other barracks, the Fifth Division Barracks house the offices and living quarters of the Shinigami of the Fifth Division. While a captain, Sōsuke Aizen's room in the barrack was on the second floor. In contrast, Shinji's room, while he was a captain was on the first floor and, notably, contained a turn-table. Captain Yamakage's office is on the second floor towards the end of the hall. Lieutenant Makinami's office is located on the opposing end of Ishihara's. All seated officers have their rooms on the second floor while the other members are residing on the first floor. Many areas of the barracks have been renovated by Captain Yamakage, granted his "great fortunes".

The fifth division has been raised to have a gentle atmosphere, where every member gets along well with one another. The division is also said to excel at nurturing soldiers of immense talent.

- Pretty good. Yoshitsune-san can be a little creepy at times, but other than that everything is quite fine!

- Give it your all, but don't forget that help is only a question away!

- As the president of the Yamakage-Taicho Fanfiction Club I ask all new recruits to try out our first club-meeting. It's the first Saturday of every month!
