The Demon Realm (魔国土, Makokudo) is a dimension situated somewhere between the Soul Society and Hell. It's the home of the many races of youkai that inhabit the worlds. With wars and skirmishes constantly fought out between the nobles and the lowborn, the entire dimension is constantly in turbulence as each Clan within the dimension fights over whose family gets to sit as leader of the Demon Council.

Divided into seven provinces, the Demon Realm is ruled from each of these by the Clan with both the militaristic as well as the political strength to hold the top position within their respective province. Each of the provinces are named after one of the seven deadly sins in Christianity, with each province also holding a Champion who is usually handpicked by the ruling Clan of the province as the strongest warrior within the region. Another way of becoming Champion is by defeating the former holder of the title in single combat. One such example would be Akira Yoshida who currently holds the title of Champion for the Senbō Province.

Environment[]
The environment is hostile practically everywhere but in the small clutches of settlements that dot the landscape every now and then. While expeditions from the Soul Society have managed to dig out small safe zones for eventual researchers or patrols it is not wise to stray too far from these campsites. Toxic fumes cling to the air amidst the thick forests that reach out over most of the landscape, and clearings are a rare sight to see. Furthermore, several varieties of the fauna found in the Demon Realm is carnivorous by nature and is capable of swallowing a fully grown man without any trouble at all.
As a way of transportation around not only the entire Demon Realm, but also to the dimensions lining up beside it, there are large structures spread strategically all over the Demon Realm known as Gateways. They run on a source of yōki that is constantly replenished and can be activated at will by anyone knowledgeable on how to manipulate the demonic energies.
