Clarion (クラリオン) is a male Hollow, formerly Adjuchas-class, but now a Vasto-Lorde, and one of Averian's Fracción. He holds seniority over the multitude of Averian's loyalist Hollow.
Appearance[]
Clarion is an insectoid Adjucha, with a humanoid frame, who is slim and skeletal, sporting a bone-like carapace, four arms tipped by pincer-like claws, and a pair of dragonfly-like wings.[1] His wings tend to twitch involuntarily when his emotions run high.[2] His small stature, and streamlined frame, indicates that he is close to evolving into a Vasto Lorde.[3] Furthermore, use of Evolución has the effect of enlarging Clarion's frame, whilst sharpening his pincers and increasing the density of his carapace.[4]
Upon his successful evolution into the Vasto-Lorde class, however, Clarion underwent a number of physical changes, notably feeling his carapace heavier, with black circular streaks covering his body from head to toe. He gained a notable degree of muscle, mimicking the enlargement he underwent upon invoking Evolución, which was now his resting state rather than an accessed augmentation.[5] Whilst retaining the same insectoid appearance he possessed as an Adjucha, Clarion gained a number of Human-like traits as well. He lost the pincers on his primary set of arms, replaced by fully-formed fingers, which he admitted felt alien to him. Furthermore, he felt his wings were heavier and more durable.[6]
Personality[]
Unlike the lesser evolved Hollow, who mostly operate on instinct outside specific cases, Clarion is an intelligent Hollow.[7] He is an effective strategist, employing basic Hollow abilities such as Garganta, to escape harm and launch surprise attacks. Furthermore, when overwhelmed or outnumbered, he has shown the requisite skill and knowledge to employ hit-and-run tactics in what could best be described as a delaying action.[4] In addition, he exercises considerable restraint, and is often the voice of reason, especially in regard to Nyx.[2] in Clarion's own words, it was his strategic mind that made him more useful in Averian's eyes, despite Nyx being openly regarded as the stronger of the two.[6]
As is the case with all his fellow Adjuchas, Clarion lived with the fear of regression, knowing that such an occurrence would render him just another mindless Gillian.[8] That said, Clarion's fear of disappointing his master overrides even his fear of regression and his usual good sense, to the point he waged a battle with a three-to-one handicap, knowing he couldn't prevail. He shows almost fanatical loyalty to Averian, alongside his fear of him, and holds seniority over Averian's multitude of followers.[1] Upon his evolution, however, this fear was replaced by a cold confidence and a newfound ruthless streak.[6]
History[]
Clarion is one of Averian's most loyal followers.[1] Like Averian, he calls the deep depths of the Forest of Menos home.[4] Prior to serving Averian he counted fellow Adjuchas Nyx and Gorky amongst his allies,[2] but always saw Nyx as a dangerous element and someone he had to be careful around.[6]

Powers and Abilities[]
Great Spiritual Energy: Prior to his ascension to the ranks of Hueco Mundo's Vasto Lorde class, Clarion was an Adjucha with an intelligent mind, and heightened spiritual power.[7] It was further stated that he was close to evolving to the Vasto Lorde class, but that he currently lacked their fearsome power.[1] This changed the moment he reached the pinnacle of Holow evolution. Having intergrated his master's bolstering Evolución upgrade during the transformation process into his own power, which allowed Clarion to momentarily content with Hikari and Shiratori without being completely overwhelmed as an Adjucha,[4] Clarion reached a level comparable to a Gotei 13 Captain. Furthermore, his transformation, aided by Evolución, resulted in the power scales tipping between himself and Nyx, resulting in Clarion surpassing her.[6]
Garganta: A basic Hollow ability which opens a portal to the empty void between worlds.[9] Clarion has been shown opening small portals connecting together two points in the one dimension for use as an escape mechanic and to launch crippling ambushes.[4]
Enhanced Speed: Clarion is fast, capable of appearing and disappearing swiftly. His wings enable fast movements and rapid change of direction, his movements punctuated by a vibrational quality.[1] His speed is particularly noteworthy. When faced by Hikari and Shiratori, Clarion knew that he couldn't win, but was able to prolong the fight mostly through his speed in conjunction with hit-and-run tactics.[4] The upper-limit of Clarion's speed as an Adjucha was comparable to Hotaru's own whilst Hollowfied.[2]
Enhanced Durability: Clarion's body is composed of a durable bone-like carapace that serves as a natural armour similar to Hierro.[1] Clarion felt this natural armour grow even stronger following his transformation.[6]
Cero: An ability utilized mainly by Menos-class Hollows, Arrancar and the Visored, with virtually no difference between practitioners.[10] Like so many others, Hollow, Arrancar, and Visored included, Clarion's Cero is crimson.[11] He fires his from between his pincers, and can thus fire four simultaneously.[4] He has demonstrated a remarkably fast charge and firing motion, enough to hit the Hollowfied Hotaru.[2]

Evolución[]
Clarion's Evolución.
Evolución (進化, Evolution) is a derivative of the Soul-splitting ability Averian acquired from Trillizos with aspects of a Quincy's reishi control and Gengetsu's innate blood control coming together to create something new.[12] Unlike Resurrección, which returns an Arrancar to their original Hollow form and unlocks their offensive abilities,[13] Evolución merely enhances what already exists.[5] As such, it is actually similar to a Visored donning their Mask, for it drastically increases Clarion's power.[14] Once invoked, Clarion's body is enhanced by Averian's reiatsu, resulting in a denser carapace, heightened physical and spiritual capacities, and keener senses. This enhancement can be accessed in stages, with the bare minimum of access being described as a "hint" of Averian's power enhancing Clarion's own.[1]
The various boosts granted by Evolución became a natural part of Clarion's own power when he successfully evolved past the Adjuchas stage and became a full-fledged Vasto Lorde.[6]
- Evolución Special Ability: Clarion's reiatsu was noted to have an "echo" of Averian's own mighty reiatsu behind him at the bare minimum of access.[1] Furthermore, Evolución enhances what is already there, leading to enhanced reiatsu and physicality.[5]
- Enhanced Cero: Clarion's four-way Cero was powerful enough to clash evenly with Hikari's Tokkan, the two blasts producing a shockwave that levelled a large area within the Forest of Menos.[4]
- Enhanced Speed: Fully empowered, Clarion's speed allowed him to outmanoeuvre the various long-range attacks employed by Shiratori, whilst keeping pace with Hikari in close-quarters.[4]

Behind the scenes[]
- Whilst Gundinger, Hikari, and Shiratori were intended to meet each other following Hunger and Greed: Predation, Clarion was not part of the initial plan. He was added later and used to not only give the three a reason to work together, but also as a means of introducing Averian's Fracción. Averian having loyal Hollows akin to an Arrancar having Fracción was hinted at in Akira's journals.
- Clarion served as the character who likewise introduced the Evolución concept, which was an off-shot of the author's previously created Battle Doll concept. Kentaro Hiroshi was one individual noted to have been a "failed" attempt to create a Battle Doll, for Averian's power coursed through him. Kentaro eventually learned to wield this power on his own terms, a concept revisited by Clarion when the latter became a Vasto Lorde.
