The Dark War Arc

The first story arc, it briefly introduces the Gotei 13 and the imminent threat: repeated attacks of organised squads of Hollows. An elite task force of eight Captains is sent to eliminate the enemy's leadership, and in the meantime a large-scale assault is launched on the Seireitei by the Hollow army.

Deicide

It has been one hundred years since the unsuccessful Togabito invasion on the Soul Society. Both the Seireitei and the Gotei 13 have recovered and grown stronger, triumphant. However, the main instigator of the invasion, Hikari Maebure, has survived the defeat of his forces which was in truth little more than elaborate reconnaissance. Now with the unfettered might of Transcendent Kidō at his disposal, Maebure gathers the very strongest of his followers and returns to the Soul Society to at last claim the Soul King's throne.
