The Bakkōtō (獏爻刀, Baku-Crossing Sword/Fused Tapir Sword) are ancient and highly illegal weapons used predmoniately by spiritual beings, but anyone with sufficient reiryoku can effectively wield them. The Kasumiōji clan where the main source of Bakkōtō creation in the years before The Collapse, but afterwards Bakkōtō became increasingly rare. Two of the few examples remaining are wielded by Shūsuke Amagai and Garrett Sheppard.

Certain individuals, namely Kenji Hiroshi and Anko Amatsuki, have demonstrated the required knowledge to not only create new Bakkōtō to their own specifications, but also modify existing examples. Kenji's method was a highly personalised fusion of Ōetsu Nimaiya's forging techniques and those once practised by the Kasumiōji, whilst Anko used techniques long practised under Bansui whilst incorporating most of Kenji's techniques.
