Baishin (白沙) was a Shinigami formerly affiliated with the Gotei 13 and Soul Society, serving as a member of the 11th Division under the 6th Kenpachi. He was used as a test subject in hopes of enhancing the power of Zanpakutō used by the lower ranks, resulting in the forceful merging of both entities. Baishin subsequently went on a rampage that ended with two Captains dead and Baishin himself sealed away.
Appearance[]
Baishin is a large, muscular man, rough, with long grey-coloured hair that spills down his back.[1] As a Shinigami, Baishin wears the standard shihakushō uniform, modified with shortened sleeves, itself a standard alternative.[2] He further modified his uniform with a fur pelt worn around his waist.[3]
Personality[]
Baishin was dedicated to furthering his prowess as a swordsman above all else, which ultimately led to him agreeing to illegal experimentation. Said experiments resulted in him merging with his Zanpakutō.[3]
After the fusion, Baishin became increasingly violent and belligerent, culminating in a murderous rampage that saw numerous Shinigami dead, including two Captains.[3]
History[]
Baishin served under Kenpachi Kuruyashiki's predecessor as a member of the 11th Division. In the early 1600s, he agreed to be a test subject in illegal experimentation intended to strengthen the powers of a Shinigami's Zanpakutō. This resulted in Baishin being forcibly fused with his Zanpakutō, a process which had detrimental effects on his psyche, resulting in increasingly violent and belligerent behaviour. This ultimately culminated in a murderous rampage, the death of two Captains, and Baishin himself sealed away.[3]

Powers and Abilities[]
Great Spiritual Energy: Baishin, after merging with his Zanpakutō, possessed Captain-class reiatsu, indicative of his murder of two reigning Captains prior to being sealed away.[3]
Zanjutsu Mastery: Even before he merged with his Zanpakutō, Baishin was a masterful swordsman who pursued self-improvement in this particular field with diligence.[3]
Zanpakutō-related Abilities: Baishin, after merging with his Zanpakutō, gained access to the basic powers inherent to all Zanpakutō, such as Konsō and the beneficial effect of cleansing Hollow. Furthermore, he can access his Zanpakutō's Shikai abilities without verbal commands of any kind, and can also invoke Bankai. Both instances transform Baishin's body in radical ways.[3]
- Shikai: Baishin exists in a state of perpetual release. He sports bladed additions over his shoulders and extending from beneath his fur pelt to cover his lower back and hips, with an appearance akin to armour.[1]
- Shikai Special abilities: Whilst overall the same as when he still released and used his Shikai previously, Baishin can now use its various powers without verbal commands of any kind, even freely transforming his own limbs into blades. This transformative trait lends Baishin's Hakuda attacks the same cutting qualities inherent to any Zanpakutō, to the point he has referred to himself "as a blade".[3]
- Blade Projection: Baishin can fire bladed projectiles, similar in shape and size to long knives devoid of ornamentation, which boast rapid-fire and extreme penetrative force.[3]
- Reiatsu absorption: Baishin can absorb a foe's reiatsu through direct contact. By his own admission, he has an easier time absorbing the reiatsu of those who lack refined control of their power output.[3]
- Bankai: Baishin, as is the case with his various Shikai abilities, dos not need to vocalize his Zanpakutō's name aloud when initiating the release. When released, Baishin's skin hardens and gains jagged edges, coloured silvery-grey, with a mass of blades focused on his left shoulder, with a shape similar to a wing. Golden rings form on his arm, numbering three, between his shoulder and upper arm.[3]
- Bankai Special abilities: The blades comprising Baishin's body can be fired with even greater force and number than the Shikai variant, to the point of completely overwhelming his opponents.[3]
Hakuda Mastery: Although not his preferred method of combat by any means, Baishin is a dangerous hand-to-hand combatant regardless. This stems from his own superb strength working in tandem with the benefits of being merged with his Zanpakutō, to the point Baishin has described himself "as a blade".[3]
Former Powers and Abilities[]
Zanpakutō[]
The name of Baishin's Zanpakutō, including its sealed appearance, are unknown.
- Shikai: The release command of Baishin's Zanpakutō is unknown. Its released form was that of a standard katana with a rectangular guard and a serrated edge comprised of several rectangular blades.[3]
- Shikai Special abilities: Baishin's Zanpakutō was capable of firing bladed projectiles following the arc of its swing, extending the range of his attacks considerably. This was achieved through the absorption of ambient reishi in the atmosphere; thusly, the more saturated an area was with reishi, the more plentiful Baishin's blades. The edge also "shaved", and forcibly absorbed a target's reiatsu when inflicting wounds.
- Bankai: Unknown.
