"Aoshin" (あおしん?) is a member of the Royal Guard, holding the title "Prodigy" (才能児 Sainōji?).
Aoshin is an Artificial Soul created by Kirio Hikifune and served as the apprentice of Ōetsu Nimaiya up until the death of the Royal Gourd doing the Quincy Blood War. Following the war, Aoshin went into exile looking for the lost Ikomikidomoe within the Hueco Mundo.
Appearance[]
Aoshin has a rather unkempt appearance, due to his messy hair and chin stubble. He is a tall, muscular Shinigami who has chin-length black hair that he wears in a somewhat ragged fashion. As opposed to his predecessor, he wears a long-sleeved captain's haori that bears the Royal Guard emblem on its back, as well as the alternating circle and diamond pattern of a captain's haori along the bottom, but retains Nimaiya's variation of the Shinigami shihakushō, featuring instead a green undergarment, and a shortened hakama that exposes his lower legs. His attire is completed by a large yellow sash around his waist and a pair of green slippers that are gold trimmed and have a shoe-like appearance.

History[]
Aoshin is an Artificial Soul created through the combined effort of the Royal Gourd, in order to pass on their respective knowledge.
Despite spending centuries looking for an apprentice to pass on his Zanpakutō Forging, Ōetsu Nimaiya found no one suitable, and brought in the assistance of Kirio Hikifune in order to create a student for him to mold. She used a combination of Gigai and Gikon technologies to bring him into existence. Aoshin was the result and was created from a fragment of Nimaiya’s own Soul.
Aoshin is what inspired Mayuri Kurotsuchi's Nemuri Project.
Plot[]
Quincy Blood War[]
During the second Wandenreich attack, when Tokinada Tsunayashiro took advantage of the chaos to infiltrate the exposed Soul King Palace to steal the Zanpakutō Ikomikidomoe from the Hōōden, Aoshin solely stood in the way of Tokinada.
Following the Quincy Blood War, with the death of the Royal Gourd, Aoshin was seen in possession of Sayafushi. The spirit of Sayafushi believed it to be the fault of Nimaiya's death, and called out to Aoshin. Once stubborn, the Zanpakutō now filled with guilt, accepted Aoshin as its new master with the latter even making a sheath that could finally contain its blade; using the fragmented pieces of Sōkyoku, Sayafushi's power increased by tenfold.
With the theft of Ikomikidomoe, Aoshin choose to exile himself within the Hueco Mundo until it was returned. Doing this time, Aoshin managed to turn Sayafushi into his very own Zanpakutō, Kamikakushi. Using its Shikai, Aoshin single handedly defeated the Hollow-Zanpakutō and its wielder, Hikone Ubuginu. However, the young soul managed to escape before Aoshin could get his hands on both of them.
Inventions[]
Equipment[]
- Sword: Aoshin has a sword that takes the form of what appears to be a thin katana with a guard shaped like four gold flower petals. However, as noted by Nimaiya, the blade is blunt and therefore cannot be used to cut.
- "Sayafushi" (鞘伏 Sheath Cover?): An extremely sharp sword forged by Ōetsu Nimaiya. Nimaiya considered Sayafushi a failed creation because its blade was too sharp and its edge was too smooth; it never chips or scratches from use, and blood slides off it immediately. Because of this, no sheath could hold it, which meant it failed to meet the basic definition of a sword. However, following the Quincy Blood War and death of the Royal Gourd, the spirit of Sayafushi accepted Aoshin as its new master. Aoshin did something even his master could not, using the fragmented pieces of Sōkyoku, Aoshin created a sheath that could finally contain its blade. As noted by Aoshin, Sayafushi's power increased by tenfold, and his own spiritual power was increased immensely. Now completed, Aoshin turned the Asauchi into his very own Zanpakutō, Kamikakushi.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Immense Spiritual Power: Should Aoshin unleash his full power, the sheer pressure would be felt not only throughout the Soul Society, including down in the Seireitei, but also in the Human World and Hueco Mundo. His Reiatsu is silverish white.
- Kidō Master: Having been trained from his creation by the inventor of Kaidō, the healing techniques of Kidō, Aoshin has great skill in Kidō spells. Aoshin is able to use mid-level spells to great effect by simply stating the name without incantation, number, or type.
- Master Swordsman: Having been trained from his creation by the creator of the Zanpakutō, nicknamed the God of the Sword, Aoshin is a master of sword technique, skilled in evasion, offense, defense, and counterattacks. He can dodge swift and direct melee attacks with little to no effort. He can take down his opponent with a single extremely fast strike that cannot be detected or registered until it has already taken place. Like Nimayia, he also uses unorthodox techniques.
- Master Swordsmith: As the successor and student of Ōetsu Nimaiya, Aoshin can forge the strongest Zanpakutō, the Asauchi, as they can become anything. He has an immense knowledge and understanding of the Zanpakutō, having been able to create Zanpakutō spirits with their own consciousness and will and is even capable of reforging a broken Zanpakutō.
- Zanpakutō Sense: Being created from a fragment of Nimaiya’s own Soul, Aoshin can sense the exact location of every Zanpakutō both he and Nimaiya has ever forged.
- Ōken: Aoshin has the Ōken imparted in his bones, which grants him the ability to travel into and out of the Soul King Palace as he pleases, as well as grant permission to others simply by willing it.
Zanpakutō[]
Kamikakushi redirects here. For the manifested spirit see Kamikakushi (Zanpakutō spirit).
"Kamikakushi" (神隠し Hidden by Kami?, viz, Spiriting Away): His Zanpakutō has a pure-white hilt with a circular handguard. The sheath is black, and the hardening line is suguha or straight blade. It is a Shinogi Zukuri-style Katana that has a traditional pure-white ito wrapped around a gray samegawa covering the tsuka (hilt), leaving a traditional diamond-shaped pattern. The end has a nice, simplistic kashira of the same color as the tsuba. The tsuba, or crossguard, consists of a rounded oval thick tsuba from which the blade goes through, in a nice metallic golden color. The colors of the edge are divided in perfect equality. The inner bo-hi is a deep black, while the outer ha, or edge, is a shining white. The blade curves slightly towards the end.
- Shikai: Its Shikai command is "Oh, Thou Wanderer of No Name, So Delicate Thou Art Shall Be." (名も無きさすらい者よ、あなたはいかにも儚げでしょう, Na mo naki sasuraimono yo, anata wa ikanimo hakanage deshō; viz, Oh, Wanderer with No Name, You are Indeed Delicate). Upon activation, the sword emits a brilliant, blinding light. When the flash clears, the sword guard becomes triangular in shape and the shear force of the release of Shikai also generates a powerful shockwave of Reiatsu capable of smashing buildings to pieces within the immediate vicinity.
- Shikai Special Ability: The power of Kamikakushi is to "steal names and bestow them upon others". It allows Aoshin to transfer concepts, ideas, or names into another object, essentially bestowing that object with the imbued concept, as long as Aoshin is able to cut it. It's reminiscent of Ichibē Hyōsube's Shikai and Bankai merged, but instead of renaming, it relocates the essence. This effect is temporary, yet the original object loses its resilience, turning as fragile as glass and adopting a dark, obsidian hue, devoid of its original color and identity. Aoshin wields both his Zanpakuto and an additional blade to receive and house these concepts, effectively granting him two Zanpakuto, a unique claim to his abilities. Doing his fight with Ikomikidomoe and its wielder, Hikone Ubuginu, Aoshin showcased "stealing" the name of Ikomikidomoe into his very own substitute katana, effectivly giving him the powers of the Hollow-Zanpakutō for the remainder of their fight.
- Bankai: Not Revealed.
- Bankai Special Ability: The details of Aoshin's Bankai remains a mystery.
