Ao Ayasaki is the actual 5th Division's Captain and one of the Punishers.
Appearance[]
Ao is a tall, dark blue scholarly-haired man. His Captain's haori has sleeves like Tōsen Kaname's. His Zanpakutō is guarded horizontally on his back. He uses the standard Shinigami outfit.
Personality[]
He is a very friendly and funny man. He admires Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto alot. He is very serious when in battle.
Power and Abilities[]
Swordsmaship Master: He has great proficiency using his sword. He seems to be capable of enduring a swords fight with Captain-Commander Yamamoto.
Great Spiritual Power: Being one of Gotei 13's Captains, he possesses a great amount of Spiritual Power.
Zanpakutō[]
Kusari-juu (鎖獣, Chained Beast): It's a regular katana with a grey hilt, a hand guard with a chain and the blade is a bit worn off.
- Shikai: Its release command is "Break the chain" (鎖を切る, Kusari o kiru): The sword doesn't change much, but the chain on the guard extends and breaks the tip. In this state, the sword has very powerful soul-controlling powers.
Shikai's Special Ability:
- Inga no Kusari, Ryō (因果の鎖・量, Chain of Fate, Consumption): This technique serves as a Hollow creation technique. By slashing a soul, the Chain of Fate starts consiming itself. Ao uses this as a sentence to the condemned souls by the Central 46.
- Inga no Kusari, Shūri (因果の鎖・修理, Chain of Fate, Repair): This technique does the exact opposite. When he slashes the Chain of Fate, it regenerates and stays fully recovered forever.
- Bankai: Kaihō-juu (解放獣, Released Beast): In this state, Ao turns to the other side. He is not a Shinigami anymore, he turns into a Hollow-like personality and turns evil.
Bankai's Special Ability:
- Horō Henge (虚変化, Hollow Transformation): This transforms every soul he slashes into a Hollow.
- Horō Henge, Girian (虚変化・ギリアン, Hollow Transformation, Gillian): This technique is identical to the previous one, but it transforms them into Gillian.

Ao is part of a group of strong Shinigami that have unique abilities that execute the Central 46 punishments. Ao is the Punisher in charge of transforming the souls into controled Hollows. This is a different kind of process, because the Chain consumes slowly but very painfully.
