Aideen Byrne (エイデーン・バーン, Eidēn Bān) is an Arrancar created by Sōsuke Aizen and a former member of his army, as the Ochenta y Dos (82nd) Números. He survived the battles of the White Invasion, continuing to live in the damaged Las Noches under its next ruler, Tier Harribel. He was eventually captured by the Wandenreich's Jagdarmee which recruited him to their ranks after he slew twelve of the Quincy among them.
Ironically, he was once a Quincy during his years as a Human. A child of the Byrne family that resided in Coolaney, at the foot of the Irish Ox Mountains. He is the older brother of Kerri Byrne.
Appearance[]
Aideen is a man of average height and marked by almost milk-white skin due to his Irish heritage. He has short cropped brown hair that is kept relatively short and clean, with only a few tufts of hair creeping over his forehead. He has prominent brow ridges, but no eyebrows, instead the hair has been replaced by a pair of white hexagonal studs that rest on the ridges in their place, below them his eyes are sharp-shaped, almost like diamonds with brown irises. Much of his lower facial structure pushes in lightly, giving his head a triangular likeness from a distance, though his cheekbones protrude outward enough to make it less clear when looking at him up close. There is a fine line running down the centre of his chin, the clear markings of a bum chin, though it is hard to spot as the chin itself, as well as his jaw are hidden by the remnants of his Hollow mask which form a clear white jaw, marked on the left side by two cyan-coloured lines. Aideen wears the attire associated with those Arrancars that served Aizen, though not with his own personal customizations. He wears a variant of their white jacket, in a sleeveless shirt that appropriates the design of the jacket, largely white in form with a tight collar and a black outline which runs down the centre of the shirt, on top of this he adorns a long white trench coat with a high, stiff collar that sits side-by-side with his jawline, the coat itself reaches down past his knees to the lower portion of his legs. He keeps the typical black sash and white hakama but replaces the standard footwear with a pair of golden greaves that have Celtic markings etched into the metals.
While not immediately visible, his Hollow hole is present on his stomach, replacing his navel.
Personality[]
Aideen is a wild spirit, he lives in the moment to the disregard of all else, satisfied only with doing what brings him enjoyment and fulfillment. The outcome of any particular event doesn't matter so much as that event is enjoyable, anything that fails to be should just be put to an end as quickly as possible. Though he remembers little of his life as a Human, especially after having absorbed the personalities of many other Hollows, he claims that he died a man with no regrets, often remarking that his sister would attest to this if asked. He is rowdy, loud, and abrasive, hallmarks of his people he says, though whether he means Hollows or Humans is never met with a clear answer. Though some consider him hard to understand, Aideen is very proud of what little of his upbringing remains ingrained in his mind, and even tries to get his sibling to join in despite her attempts to hide it. His aspect of death is said to be "selfishness".
In spite of being rather tactless, Aideen is a friendly individual who does his best to inspire camaraderie in his allies which typically begins with lighthearted jabs, "Isles courtesy" as he calls it. Though he claims tactics and planning are for those who waste time thinking, he is actually a ruthlessly cunning fighter, exploiting any weakness that he catches in an opponent and overwhelming them with everything he has in his arsenal, an erratic combination that never remains the same. He has an intense love for alcohol, which he imbibes frequently due to the lack of negative effects on Arrancar, to the point that rumours around the Wandenreich have sprung up that he married a particular beverage at one point which he fervently denies. He is also known for having a remarkably bad sense of direction.
History[]
Aideen was born in 1965 to the Byrne family of Quincy that resided in a rather remote part of Ireland, the village of Coolaney at the foot of the Ox Mountains.
Powers & Abilities[]
|
Master Unarmed Combatant: Aideen's primary means of engaging in battle are with his hands and feet, as well as his head whenever he can work it into the pattern. He boasts a great deal of skill in the realm of unarmed combat, which has been entirely self-taught through years of conflict. Though his learning has left him with holes, it is sufficient enough that those of a lower level would never be able to spot his weaknesses. He is quick, powerful and unorthodox. He is capable of dishing out a great deal of damage in a short period of time and his skill is enough that even against an opponent far greater than himself, he is able to hold his own, even if for only a short period of time. He is unscrupulous in battle, every weakness is an advantage, every opening should be exploited. He is a proponent of the Celtic fighting stereotype of kicking an opponent while they're down.
High Spiritual Power: Aideen boasts a large degree of spiritual power, on par with that of the typical Lieutenant among the Gotei 13's Shinigami. He has a fair degree of control over it, such that he could keep it hidden from the Jagdarmee until he had started attacking them, and then the full weight of his spiritual energy gave him the necessary energy to kill a full twelve of their number and put up a fight against their captain, Quilge Opie with only a slight disadvantage. When exerted, his Reiatsu takes on a faded lavender pigmentation.
|
Cero: The signature technique of most Hollows, Aideen uses them with a great degree of versatility, having even made the technique the central point of a fighting style. Typically he forms a Cero with all of his fingers outstretched on his left hand, the orb of energy forming in his palm, it is then fired as if he was throwing a ball. His Cero are excruciatingly slow to form, sometimes taking several minutes at a time, but are all the more powerful for it. Despite his relatively low status, he has proven that his Cero can harm individuals far more powerful than himself, up-to and including a Marshal of the Balancers of Souls. In addition to his regular forming point, he has learned the ability necessary to free-forming his Cero, allowing him to generate them almost anywhere. In his case, they are most often formed around his feet or in front of his forehead, both as a means to augment his attacks. His Cero are purple in colouration. Bala: An ability where Arrancar generate and harden their Reiatsu before firing it from their fist like a bullet. Aideen fires a variant that is more focused on the concussive force of the ability, such that its killing potential is greatly diminished in favour of creating a more powerful suppressive tool. It packs an extremely potent physical presence that is best used in order to stun an opponent, or at least temporarily throw off their balance. His are indigo in colour. Hierro: An instinctive ability used by Arrancar, their Reiryoku is condensed and transformed into a steel-hard coating that protects them from harm, allowing them to clash with the Zanpakutō of Shinigami barehanded. Aideen uses his as a means of conserving his energy, in lieu of using his Cero-based fighting style right out of the gate, he instead uses his Hierro as a means of augmenting his physical attacks, allowing the hardiness of his skin to create a more powerful surface area for each of his strikes. His Hierro is incredibly strong for his level, such that fighting someone of an equal rank in terms of Reiryoku is an uphill battle for them without knowing the weakness of a Hierro. It is easier to overcome for those stronger than himself, but it still acts as a buffer in order to mitigate the damage he suffers. Sonído Expert: The Arrancar equivalent to the Shinigami Shunpo, Aideen is a skilled user of Sonído. His movements are rapid and have the effect of seemingly bleeding into one another, making it hard to discern what he is actually doing at any one time as he appears to be doing multiple things at once mid-motion. He is skilled enough in its use that he was able to keep ahead of several opponents at once, and even took out several members of the Jagdarmee without taking a scratch in turn. He could temporarily outpace Quilge Opie during their fight and force the latter onto the defensive.
|
Reishi Absorption & Manipulation: Through instruction by the Wandenreich, Aideen has learned to perform the technique which allows them to absorb the spiritual particles that suffuse the Human World and constitute the entirety of Hueco Mundo and Soul Society. He can use this gathered energy to bolster his own reserves of Reiryoku, or to form a Spirit Weapon and the signature arrows that the Quincy use. He has trouble in maintaining multiple constructs however, and can only actively form one or the other, a problem he shares with his partner in crime, Zankken. The pair have devised a tactic in combat where one of them forms the Spirit Weapon that they wield, while the other creates the arrows to be fired. Schatten (自己韜晦 (シャドー), Shaten; German for "Shadow"; Japanese for "Concealing One's Position"): A power supposedly restricted "to the chosen ones", it allows the Quincy to form a portal from their very own shadows, raising their hand to cast it over a surface which then extends far above and forming into a Quincy cross. The portal is capable of transporting entire groups of people.
|
Sabueso (狩猟犬 (サブエソ), Sabueso; Spanish for "Hound"; Japanese for "Hunting Dog"): Aideen's Zanpakutō can scarcely be called a sword, as his instead takes the unique form a targe, a circular shield with a sleek steel frame embossed with numerous golden rivets that form a series of pattern across its front. A single large umbo is planted at the centre of the shield which is surrounded by rivets forming the shape of a four point star which is further covered by a series of lines that expand out until they reach the edge of the shield, though a series of opposing lines presses through the rings across its pattern. A pair of black leather enarmes are attached to the back of the shield. It is typically found mounted onto Aideen's back by a set of black straps.

Reishi Pistol: Gathering Reishi and mixing it with his Reiryoku, Aideen can forge them into weapons for his use. He favours a design reminiscent of the Sphinx 3000, a blocky handgun with a steel finish to it, as well as a visible safety mechanism on the side, a squared trigger guard and a small boot-shaped firing pin. He shares this weapon with Zankken Javan due to the unique nature in which they engage in battle with Spirit Weapons and their ammunition, the Heilig Pfeil.

Trivia[]
- Aideen's name is an intentional corruption of Aiden, to fit with the naming conventions of Hollowfied beings. Aiden as a name is an anglicization of the Irish and Scottish Gaelic name, Aodhán, a petform of the name Aodh which means "Fiery" or "Bringer of Fire". Byrne is derived from Ó Broin which marks one as a "descendant of Bran".
