"Only join if you're prepared to throw your life away."

The 2nd Division (二番隊, nibantai; "Squad 2" in the English Dub) is one of the divisions in the Gotei 13 .  It is currently headed by Captain Soifon and Lieutenant Sakura Ieyoshi.

Even with the addition of the Omnitsukido, the organization of the 2nd Division has not strayed from the traditional structure.  The various sub-divisions in the Omnitsukido have been abolished, due to the Third, Fifth, and Ninth Divisions specializing in everything but stealth missions.

Special Duties

The 2nd Division is in charge of covert operations where stealth is essential.  Some of their common missions include the infiltration of enemy lines, sabotaging enemy equipment, assassinating various targets, and espionage.  Members of this division are expected to show no fear in the face of death due to how dangerous most, if not all, of their jobs are.

The division's training grounds are perhaps the most impressive in all of Soul Society, but even they pale in comparison to the actual building.  Complete with heated floors, air conditioning, doors that open automatically, and so forth.  There's even a hotsprings in the basement, and every member gets their own luxurious bedroom.

The 2nd Division accepts members who have shown proficiency in hand-to-hand combat and arts involving stealth.  Potential recruits are screened and tested by seated officers in order to ensure that they meet the division's standards.
