I think its time we had a real discussion on creating a set of new user groups for the wiki.
Summary
As you are all aware, Captains are all members of the Sysop user group (administrators), while the Captain-Commander is both a Bureaucrat and a Sysop. Each has a specific set of tools at their hands that they use to better the wiki. However, recently it has struck me that the Lieutenants have been not only downplayed in importance, but other than rollback privileges, they have no other way of assisting their captains beyond the regular capacity as a user.
New Group
If you're not aware, Wikia requires a community discussion and consensus before a new user group is made. That is the reason I am starting up this discussion and getting everyone's views on it. What we would need to decide is the following;
- What to call the group? (trivial, but important)
- What powers should the new group possess?
Now, it is important that we don't create a Captain (sysop) 0.5; meaning, we don't just want a new group that has basically the same rights as a Captain.
The lieutenants on this wiki were selected to assist the captains in their duty, so it may be necessary to give them some Sysop privileges; Deletion, Protection, Un-Protection, Block, etc. They would not need all of these. Maybe one or two at the most, alongside their already given rollback rights. Its up to us to decide which a Lieutenant would need to assist the captains best.
Additionally, I would also suggest giving the Captains (sysops) the right to promote them, since captains chose their lieutenants, in a similar manner that I promote Captains when the userbase votes on a new one. This would allow captains a quicker response in demoting outgoing lieutenants (via our policy) and selecting new ones.
So, what would everyone suggest?
