Alright. I know the fact that I'm saying, "hey let's vote on each other's articles," might be considered controversial, to say the least. But I'm tired of searching through article after article myself to find one to put on the main page. Plus it shouldn't just be one or two admins to decide on the featured article. This is a democratic wiki, so everyone should get a chance to vote: wouldn't you say?
Now, some people have even advocated taking the "Featured Article" section down from the main page entirely: but I think it should remain. Why? Because it might start motivating the members here on BFF to actually finish articles: (hah hah) to have one of your articles featured could be seen as a reward of sorts. Plus, (perhaps more importantly), it is eye-catching and immediately directs newcomers/visitors to the wiki to a quality article, so they can quickly get a sense of what this wiki is all about. Lastly, (and this is just my personal opinion but...) removing the featured box just because we don't want to "puff up anyone's ego" just sounds like an excuse to be lazy, imo. It's only natural to have a sense of pride if your article is featured after all; and to me this can actually be a good thing.
Anyway, moving on to the meat of the thread. There are only THREE RULES that should be followed when nominating an article to be featured, and they are as follows:
1. You may not nominate your own work. Come on now, the reasons for this should be obvious. Besides, if you are forced to nominate somebody else's article that means more pages on this wiki will be read, and if you do nominate another user it is likely they will reciprocate the favor in the future. Share and share alike. You may, however, vote on your own work (once the nominations have been finalized).
2. The article in question should be complete, or at least relatively complete. This is defined as having each section of the article filled out. Hint: if there is an "Under Construction" template on the top of the page, the article is probably not eligible.
3. You may only cast one final vote. (Not two votes or three votes or one vote for each article: one final vote).
To nominate a character article, simply link to their name in the thread below. Nominations will close on February 26th, which should hopefully give enough people enough time to read some articles and such. Final voting will close on January 29th. While you CAN nominate and vote simultaneously, I recommend waiting until after the 26th so you can see everyone else's nominations.
Now, this isn't going to be a once-a-month thing, as I think that is just too much for our relatively small wiki to handle. So once every four months is what I will set our goal as, for a total of three featured articles a year (which would already be exponentially greater than our current trend.) But if you have a good reason for why we should do otherwise, just let me know.
Good luck fellow BFFers!
