Marvel Infinity Wars is out, summer is coming, Netflix is looking prospective for new anime productions... and Bleach is as dead as ever. But hope is not lost friends, not as long as there are Bleach fans across the vast expanse of the inter webs to be found!

That said, there's no point in denying that wiki activity has seen a decline across the board. In an effort to renew interest in Bleach fanon, a few of us admins came together to discuss ideas about what could be done to increase activity. Eventually, we came to the agreement that it would be in our best interests to combine the communities of BFF and our sister site, The Bleach Fanon.

Now, let's get some of the nitty-gritty out of the way:

What would a community merge accomplish?

Since there are so few active editors on either side these days, merging wikis has the immediate advantage of doubling the user base. Even if this only results in ten or so active editors, ten is a huge improvement over five. And numbers tend to generate more numbers. So maybe ten could one day turn into twenty active members, which honestly is a pretty solid membership for a fanon wiki. Secondly, it would enable us to promote Bleach fanon on other wikis, such as affiliate fanon wikis and perhaps even Bleach canon wiki without having to worry about marginalizing the activity of another Bleach site in order to promote our own. Thirdly, it would simply make things more cohesive, and has the potential to unite everyone's efforts into a single fanon project.

This may all sound optimistic, but really when it all boils down there are simply more advantages than disadvantages for combining. The split that happened long ago is long-past, and perhaps it is time to finally and officially let bygones be bygones.

What a wiki merge looks like:

This is where things get a bit more complicated. A wiki merge means that we will be importing all of the articles from one wiki into the "target" wiki, with the end goal of closing down the merger's URL and consolidating all the Bleach fanon articles into one place. For purely pragmatic reasons, it is easier to export the articles of the smaller wiki and export them into the larger wiki (because of the fact that we have to move articles), so BF would be exported to BFF.

The most difficult aspects will be transferring articles that share the same name, as well as possible issues with template and image imports. However, we will be in contact with wiki's Community Central staff in order to resolve these issues.

That said, we won't proceed without first seeking member feedback.

That's where you all come in. Are you in agreement with the wiki merge? If so then simply post to affirm so. If you are not in agreement or have concerns about the merge, then please explain why. We hope to start the merge process in about a week, so promptness would be appreciated.

Finally, merging wikis also involves a lot of technical legwork that will involve some cooperation. Please let us know if you would like to help out, as there are some mechanical things we could use help with (such as page categorizations, renames, etc.).

As for our plans to continue activity after the merge, we are currently looking towards material from Bleach's light novels to draw inspiration from. In case you didn't see it, Sei made a master post about them a while back, and I would suggest giving that a read as well as considering reading the LNs themselves. And if you have any other ideas as to how we could increase activity, such as ideas that you would want to RP about, don't hesitate to suggest them!

Normally we don't allow people to advertise other wikis but considering it's been made by one of our own and also probably going to be one of the wikis we are affiliated with, so it can't hurt to make that known. As many of you have noticed, the header for the wiki has been changed. Unfortunately, barring some CSS shenanigans (which lie beyond the reach of my credentials), the "new look" is here to stay.

Fortunately, we can at least customize it (banner images and the like).

That got me thinking, why not just update the wiki appearance as a whole? It's been YEARS since we've changed the theme, and considering the fact that the Quincy arc has technically ended, as well as the recent activity of the Fanon Canon, an update may be in order.

What do you guys think? Do you like the theme or would a change of scenery be nice?

Personally I prefer a lighter background as it makes reading easier (considering this is a content-heavy wiki). Other than that what would you all suggest? I think a Gotei 13 theme would be cool. We could also do something along the lines of Kidou and Castles. I have some artistic skills so I could pull off something a little more customized.

I added a section for the Fanon Canon on the main page. I also updated the navigation bar and put a little tab there for our discord chat.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to disable wiki chat and direct everyone towards discord to keep things unified? (Discord would be our main chat). Let me know what you think.

Of course, the Discord chat is completely optional, but we decided it was a more reliable option than using wiki's chat, mainly because you can save conversations.

Yo all! For the sake of making things easier to find on the forums, I have rearranged the boards a bit, combined some redundant boards and deleted un-used boards. I also added a new board, called the "Review Board," where users can ask the wiki in general for feedback on the articles they are working on. There are three threads ranging from "Easiest" to "Most-involved" for the type of review being requested.

Finally, since we are no longer using character applications for the Fanon Canon, I have archived all previous application posts for the FC under one board, so you can still access those if you need to get to them at some point.

Although it was done quite some time ago now, there is a new Manual of Style that has been instituted on this site in order to distinguish ourselves from other Fan Fiction sites. Reading through the most recent changes, one can easily recognize vast changes in the site's approach on topics that were/are considered "hands off" on other sites. The biggest changes is that grammar will be enforced on all pages within this wiki and, if proper grammar is not utilized, the article may be deleted and the user banned (only after numerous infractions). Another change was the shift in use of the image policy, prohibiting the use of video game images from use on the site. For the most part, this will effect hardly no one since video game images are rare enough on the site to be used as a medium for a character. Regardless, the images tend to be grainy, low quality or too realistic to be considered for use as Fan Fiction characters (Cloud from Final Fantasy comes to mind).

Again, all are required to adhere to these changes, even the admins (since no one is above the rules). These rules will be enforced by the administration and any violations shall be dealt with.

Alright folks. I am not sure how everyone is going to feel about this, but I decided to name the Fanon Canon project, set to begin shortly, Bleach: Extinction. Given the nature of the goals set forth by Kraven Jäger, I thought that the name fit quite well and I also took the liberty of creating a logo for it (a new hobby of mine).

In addition, any page now associated with the Fanon Canon should be marked with the Fanon Canon template in order to distinguish articles involved from others. This is only to be done, however, after your application is approved here in the forum, simply to limit confusion.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Template:YoutubePlayer is now live. With this, you can add songs to characters pages without needing to add an entire video or a huge strip for the older versions of the YouTube players. This version features a play/pause button and a volume control button, that's it. I had some spare time on my hand and I revised a large amount of templates on the site as a means to improve the look of the site and modernize it. I hope everyone is pleased with the changes and begins to use the templates more frequently than in the past. I also plan on updating a bunch of other infoboxes as well, namely the infoboxes, but I need some advice. Also, if anyone has any ideas on any other templates that would be helpful on the site.
